Folks, please be informed that Brandt circulated the Balance Sheet and Income Statement for our club through end of July, attached. They show we did well on the Fourth of July, and are progressing on the dinner raffle and collection of dues, while encountering the usual early in the year costs and providing funds for international service.
So far this year we have achieved a net surplus of $1,333.  Last year, we increased our cash on hand from $40,833  to $46,244, a net increase of $5,411.
Many thanks, Brandt and Larry, for getting this done.

 Dear Rotarians,
Last week we hosted the District Governor, Jim O'Grady, and had a Board meeting with him at 12:00 on 7/31 followed by an enjoyable dinner in his honor, at the Mendocino Grove, also attended by the Rotary clubs of Fort Bragg and Gualala, and a lunch meeting with Fort Bragg Rotary on 8/1 at the North Coast Brewery Pub in Fort Bragg. Our President, Margaret Black, organized the first two events, and did a wonderful job of organizing the overall proceedings, arranging the venue for the dinner and conducting our meeting. Notes are as follows.
Mendocino Board Meeting
Rotarians and guests attending included Margaret, Jim O'Brady, Gary Hopper, Toby, Susan Ciminotti, Brandt, Matt Davis, Cathy Karabensh, La Donna MacDonald, Rick MacDonald, Leon Thomsen, Matt O'Halloran and Jeff, a total of 13 persons including 5 Board members, 2 other members and 8 guests. With a present total of 9 Board members (4 officers, 4 avenue of service chairs and 1 standing committee chair not an officer) we had a quorum.
Margaret opened the meeting with the pledge and a word of thanks to Jim and others for joining us. We inducted Leon Thomsen as a member, after which we updated Jim on our various ongoing and upcoming activities, describing things that we were doing and would be doing soon in the various avenues of service (Community, International and Youth Service), the project we were developing for upgrading the play area of the Mendocino community center, the projects we expected to support in community health and sanitation in Fiji and Vanuatu, our intent to expand community services and youth services, our work with other clubs both at home and overseas and our expectation of raising funds through the Fourth of July celebration, the ongoing dinner raffle fund drive, the golf tournament, the proceeds and one or two additional events, such as Springtime marathon and/or a winter bingo night.
Matt O'Halloran gave an excellent talk on our projects in the South Pacific and we wished him a productive, enjoyable trip to Fiji and Vanuatu.
Margaret urged members to get out and sell dinner raffle tickets and to find hole sponsors for the golf tournament.
LaDonna and Rick MacDonald provided delicious canapes which made the DG feel welcome and we all enjoyed greatly. Thank you, LaDonna and Rick.
We collected $20 in the way of member meeting fees, which was substantially short of the $40 we should have collected. We must do better.

Dinner for the District Governor
We had a dinnner at the Grove, which gave us all the chance to meet Jim and persons from the other clubs, and get to know each other better. Margaret and he husband Dan attended, as well as Toby and Leona, Jeff and Karen, Brandt, Pete Rose and Christie, Gary, Donna and her husband Chris, Trevor Kuchar, Susan Ciminotti, Cathy Karabensh and  others I may have missed. The Grove proved an excellent venue, with a nice outdoor ambience, good food, and attentive and helpful service. We talked about projects and activities of mutual interest, and all had a good time.
The cost of the dinner was $45 for each participant. If you have not provided a check to Brandt, please do!!
Fort Bragg Rotary Meeting
Fort Bragg President Jennifer Bosma welcomed the members and guests (four members of our club were present: Margaret, Toby, Leon and Jeff). Jennifer opened the meeting with the pledge and a song after which she turned the meeting over to Gary Champlin, our Assistant Governor for Fort Bragg, Mendocino and Gualala. Gary introduced Jim, a member of Petaluma Valley Rotary, an educator and a businessman, who talked about the things expected of a District Governor including visits to be paid to all 51 clubs in the district and the key themes of his governorship, which built upon on the Magic of Rotary, included building friendships and focussed on reducing and ameliorating the effects of human trafficking. Jim gave an excellent, entertaining talk which featured a magic trick, music and a quiz about Rotary and friendship events organized by various clubs around the world We talked about friendship exchanges, Rotary work done in Uganda which had saved the life of a little girl and a World Peace Conference during January 24-26 in Rohnert Park, http://www.rotarypeaceconference2025.org.
Thanks to President Jennifer and Assistant Governor Gary for organizing this meeting.
Public Relations
The Beacon of 7/31/24 featured on the front page an article on Fort Bragg Police Chief Neil Cervenka's recent talk to our club which we hope all have seen by now.
Nest meetings
Our next meeting will be on July 8. Anya Jindrich of the Cancer Resource Centers of Mendocino will speak. See you there!!
