Folks,
We had an excellent meeting on the 4th, setting us on a path to end the Rotary year on a high.
Amongst others, we heard reports or made decisions on disaster relief, in the tornado-hit areas of the United States, grants to the Community Center and Art Center, grants for youth scholarships and leadership training, use of the Park on the 4th of July and  the dine out raffle.
We decided to undertake a John Porter memorial fund raiser, to be led by John C, Donna and Matt after discussing it with Janis.
We had a regular meeting on May 11 at which Carsten and Suzanne presented the work they had been doing with Ukrainian refugees. Carsten's emotional presentation was full of personal insight into the war, particularly from the angle of the psychological impact on individuals still in Ukraine, refugees, families, youth and of course Carsten and Suzanne themselves. It was attended by 20 persons, a new record following the lean years of the pandemic. We were glad to see the interest of our members and others in our community (Merrie Smith, Rob Buch, Michael Brown, Brittney from State Farm) on this disastrous war.
Our next meeting will be on May 25, when Barbara Faulkner will speak on the Mendocino Music Festival.
Cheers,
