Hi Mendocino Rotary members,

Some of you have been active in the development of Rotary Park and some
have not enjoyed the opportunity to have been involved in its
development or taking the opportunity to serve on the Board of the
Mendocino Rotary Foundation (MRF). It's been 8 years since the
Mendocino Rotary Club first bought 2 vacant lots and decided to build a
park for our community. The following email was sent to the MRF Board
Members and I thought you may want to have some knowledge of what has
happened to those two lots.

Hi All,

This email is taking the place of the July 19th MRF Board meeting that
was cancelled. Our nest meeting, if necessary, will be on Tuesday
August 9, 2022 at Rotary Park at noon.

It's been 8 years since the Mendocino Rotary Club purchased two vacant
lots in Mendocino with the purpose of constructing a community park,
which we have since named Rotary Park. These vacant lots are now being
continually landscaped, picnic tables and benches are being used by the
community and kids (and adults)are enjoying the swing set in the park.
We have almost completed our Founders Patio and recently laid 300+
Paving tones along the Main Pathway in the park. A Community Table will
soon be.completed. Those items are for our community and visitors.
Behind the scenes we have electrified the park for events, dug and
installed a water tank and constructed a multipurpose shed. It's been a
busy 8 years, but we are not finished yet.

We have some unfinished projects and some new ones before the park is
complete.

We will be continuing to sell Paving Stones so we still have to plan
where they will be laid on the pathways. The Founders Patio will be
completed by Matt this week. We still have work to be done on the water
system. Eli will install the pumps and tubing with the spigot in the
shed. New benches are planned to be built and placed along the main
pathway. The Community table needs to have benches constructed. The
donated security cameras need to be installed on the flag pole and the
tape system installed in the shed. Landscaping and park maintenance are
on going projects. When all these present day projects are completed we
will have finished Phase 1 of the park.

In the future we have both Phase 2 and 3 to work on. They are the
sidewalk on Main Street and the park entrance in the NE corner on
Lansing Street. I am sure we will, in the future, think of some
projects to make the park even more useful to our community and
visitors.

There are members of our community that may want to be recognized in
being part the development of the park besides being listed in the
Founders Patio or on a Paving Stone. We need to reach out to those
individuals for ideas they may want to support with a donation. Now
that the two vacant lots, we purchased, look like a park our next step
is to make them even more useful. We have had a number of successful
events at the park and should make plans to have more. Both Rotary Park
and Rotary will both benefit.

To date I have received many compliments on Rotary Park, both verbally
and in writing and I would guess that you have too. We have done a
service to our community and that is what a Service Club is designed to
do, so after 8 years I believe all Mendocino Rotary Members deserve to
take a bow for a job well done.

Jerry
