I would just suggest not doing things that would encourage people to hang around (like games or music). What kind of partnerships are you envisioning? You may be planning to much activities for it to be viable for the Humane Society. Too many people and noises might be an issue. My fiancee' is on their board so she put me in touch with their ED and I have sent her an email.Ray AlarconAlarcon Ins AgencyPO Box 2539Mendocino, CA 95460707-937-5050CA Lic#0B68172

Target friends, town members, family, and kids, put up a few posters but not advertise much except perhaps on radio, and offer--hot dogs, oysters and drinks, with games such as corn hole with prizes, maybe face painting, maybe a raffle. A Humane Society adoption truck would be an attraction.I have asked the Fire Dept if they would like to partner with us, and Fort Bragg Rotary would be another partner. We can discuss Thursday. I am really torn on a 4th of July event. There will not be the usual parade because the Chamber was concerned about too many people gathering in close proximity.I was contacted by both Ed O'Brien and Sherriff Kendall and they both agreed with that decision. The Humane Society has already asked about having their mobile adoption truck there.I understand in theory the State will be fully opened by 7/4, I just tend to lean towards caution. Can we find a happy median?P.sI may not be available that day.Ray AlarconAlarcon Ins AgencyPO Box 2539Mendocino, CA 95460707-937-5050CA Lic#0B68172-------- Original message --------From: Jeffry Stubbs via Rotary <rotary at lists.mcn.org> Date: 5/30/21 8:08 AM (GMT-08:00) To: rotary at lists.mcn.org, Dean Watson <watsondmw at comcast.net>, Roccie Hill <roccie at mendocinoartcenter.org>, Scott Roat <scott at mendocinoagent.com>, Gerald Shuck <gshuck at gmx.com> Subject: [Rotary] Fw: Subject: Rotary: Meeting of May 27 Dear All,Yesterday we kicked off a program of meetings aimed at re-imagining our club, and identifying projects and events for next year. We met on the lawn at my house, and enjoyed pizza, made by Cafe Beaujolais, and salad and brownies, made by Karen as well as the sunny day and each other's company. We got the zoom going a little late, and on an I-phone, which was difficult to see in the bright sunlight, another lesson learned, but we hope those of you who tried to zoom in and may have been disappointed will join us next week, when we meet indoors for lunch at Mendocino Cafe.Rotarians present were Susan, Matt, Brandt, Toby, Harold, Mike, Dean, John Cottle, Jeff and Scott. William and Roccie tried to zoom in but I am not sure if they got on or not. So we had a core group of 10 persons most of whom are mainstays of the club.We discussed methods of addressing our membership problems, and it seemed to be that we needed to grow the club, by adding skills and backgrounds either to better represent our community better or to meet particular skill needs, more young people, and more women. We agreed we need to reach out to those who have left the club, or who have stopped attending meetings, figure out what went wrong, and get some of them back into the active club. We can do that by developing more social events, and developing our meetings in ways that are more fun. In some cases we had not mentored new members, and we needed to improve in that area. Jeff suggested, and there was some support for, creating a new "friends of Rotary category of membership, for people who want to help out and stay in touch but do not want to pay the dues that full Rotarians pay. Another category could be corporate membership, which is being implemented in clubs in our district and nationwide. We talked about the rituals that we have followed in the past, before the pandemic, which included for individual meetings things like the pledge, fines, happy dollars, a quiz, a thought for the day, a song, a who am I and a raffle. The consensus was that some of these may be out of date, but on the other hand some we should bring back, beginning next week. In the way of other events, we should bring back things like Charter Night, Debunking etc. We talked about the importance for new members of linking up with other clubs and events in our district, including the District Training Assembly which is a good chance to learn current management techniques, find out more about Rotary and meet other Rotarians. Our club should encourage or even require new members to attend such events, and help with their expense. Matt suggested a film depicting the new Rotary and the old Rotary, in a town setting. Also a Country Western dance party in the Park. Susan suggested that members put on dinner or cocktail parties. We turned to the immediate future, and decided that, subject to the approval of the Foundation, we will hold a barbecue in the Park to celebrate the 4th of July. We need to discuss this at more length, and get going on organizing it, but there was also a thought that we could sponsor a country western or folk rock band. If anyone knows of one, please contact them to see if they are available. It occurred to me after the meeting that we could barbecue oysters as well as the usual hot dogs and hamburgers. Dean said we could use his barbecue. We will contact the Fire District to see if they would like to work with us on this. We might also talk with Fort Bragg Rotary. Jeff will take care of this, and we can discuss again next week. We may wish to have something fun on the 4th in addition to a barbecue--a cornhole tournament, a bicycle race around the headlands? Should we seek to involve the Interact club?Next possible event would be a golf tournament, a real one, as we have done in the past, not a pandemic tournament. Who knows the ropes and will step forward to organize it?Jerry could not attend the meeting, but suggested we have dine out raffle as we did last fall, this fall. There was agreement that we should have a debunking some time in June where the President hands out awards, and there was agreement from all that we will do it, date still to be decided. Which brings us to next week's meeting, at Mendocino Cafe. Toby and I will bring our equipment and get us set up. I have talked with Meredith and she knows how we would like to lay out the dining room.We will need:A Quiz-masterA Zoom-master--Jesse has agreed to be "it".A Greeter--John Cottle has agreed--andSomeone to man the service desk. Please call myself or Toby if you want to help with any of the above. We will have a raffle, and enjoy the good food of the cafe as well as the company. Lunch at the Cafe will be $25 each, plus the cost of any drinks you may wish, paid at the door. Which reminds me: we decided the cost of the pizza lunch yesterday would be $15-20, but we only collected $35.00, which came from Toby and myself. Those who did not pay, please either deposit the funds with the club using our website, or send a check to Harold before our next meeting.Last but not least, Brandt confirmed that he will be our Treasurer next year, with Mr. Flores, a CPA, of his office being the bookkeeper. Many, many thanks, Brandt!!We will need to find a programs person to replace the excellent work done by Brandt. Volunteers, please step forward. We thanked Harold for all he has done as Treasurer/bookkeeper, and ended the meeting on a happy note. We hope to see every member of our club and any visitor who would like to learn more about the club at our meeting in the Cafe next week. Jeff Stubbs, PresidentRotary Club of MendocinoP.O.
