The meeting, which was held at Mendocino Cafe, was convened at 12:15 with the pledge, a quiz, happy dollars and fines.
Persons present included Pete, Gary, Dean, Jerry, Jeff, Toby, Scott by zoom, Matt for part of the session, and Mike, a total of 9. Roccie tried to zoom in but was caught in the waiting room and with reason finally gave up.
Note for the future: the Chairman should not attempt to zoom a meeting, it is too diverting of his attention.
He should confirm the zoom master before announcing the meeting.
We talked about ways to grow the club, focussing on younger members, persons representing the community and women. We confirmed last week's decision to require all members to invite at least one new member to lunch each quarter, and decided to do more community-oriented social and service events. We noted that there is a need to get our name out to the public. Jeff will put together a larger flyer.
Jeff suggested we look at new times for meetings, so that we might hold say two meetings a month at the now-usual time, and at least one more at a new time, to be decided. We should also consider new forms of membership, such as a Friends of Rotary category that would help out with events but not be expected to pay dues, or a Corporate Membership which might  encourage more business owners to join.
We decided to put together a Mendocino Community Fair (might alternatively be called an Octoberfest) on September 18-19 at which we would invite the major NGOs and businesses of the town to a festival in the Park, with tables for each to display their wares, games, music and a barbecue. Jeff and Jerry will be responsible.  This will help us kick off our membership drive. First steps: contact possible participants, prepare budget, prepare flyers or posters.
Jeff suggested, again, a 24-hour marathon or biathlon to be done jointly with the school district. If anyone is interested in this, please take it up.
We discussed a date for the annual Golf Tournament, and decided August might be too early. If so it might held in early October. Pete, Gary and Ray will be responsible.
We will do a dine out raffle, timing to be set in light of the Community Fair, the annual Golf Tournament and other activities.
Toby had secured 10 cases of wine which he picked up yesterday.
Jeff said that we had qualified for a district grant. John C and Jeff would prepare a proposal for funding benches and waste bins in the community center, and Donna would prepare a proposal for a Bee Bold Alliance initiative.  If someone wants to take up the grammar school scoreboard they should do so. We have just over 60 days to get proposals in.
Toby announced that Mike  was being considered for President-elect and Jesse for President-Nominee. Jeff said that Donna would be nominated as Youth Chair.
If John Cottle continues as Community Services Chair, Matthew O'Halloran as Park Maintenance Chair and Jeff as International Chair we will have all the avenues of service covered.
We still lack a budget for 2021/22 but we will put that together as we learn more about our projects and other obligations. Since we may not do casino night, we will have to either find another source of funds or possibly cut back on the budget.
The Hospital is having its 50 anniversary celebration on June 27th,  from 10:00 to 1:00, with music, acrobatics, exhibits etc. in the parking lot of the hospital, and had asked Rotary to man a table and invite community partners. All Rotarians, please note and suggest to your friends in other organizations that they attend. Jeff and John C will man the Rotary table, with help from Dean and Pete.
The club website is up and running and can be used now for donations, thanks to Jesse. Avenue of service and other working group heads, please provide any information you want carried on the website or our facebook page send your materials to Jesse and Pam, respectively.
Mike has been collecting requests for name badges, pins, clothing etc and will want to get our order off soon. Please contact him immediately if you need something ordered.
The pandemic golf tournament will close on the 21st. We have only had 3 teams. Toby and Jeff have played 54 holes, Mike and Gary 18 holes and Gary and Pete 36 holes. Let me know if you have played more. You need at least 3 18-hole scores to compete for the overall score prize.
Our next meeting, which will be the annual awards dinner and debunking, will be on June 24, in the evening, at 6:00 pm at the Noyo Harbor Inn. Please plan to attend, with your spouse, partner, friend or date, and let Jerry know. The cost will be $75 for couples and $40 for singles.
Following that we will meet again on July 1 at Mendocino Cafe, under our new President, Toby Wade!! Thanks to Meredith and Jay for hosting us.
We hope that those of you who have not been attending zoom meetings will join us for the in-person lunch. We need you!!
We will see if we can do better with the zoom aspect of the meeting.
That's all for now. Hope to see you at the debunking.      Jeffry Stubbs, President

Subject: Subject: Mendocino Rotary: Meeting of Thursday June 17

Hi all,

We will meet in Mendocino Cafe dining room on Thursday for what may be our last substantive meeting of the year. Last week we made great progress in defining the year ahead, with several projects and fund raisers identified, as well as a committment to identify and invite new members. We still need to identify a President-elect and Nominee for next year, and appoint or re-appoint a Secretary and working group heads. We can discuss at our meeting.

Importantly, however, lets all think how we would re-imagine our club, and how we can accomplish the real change that we need to enable it to reach out and grow.

Agenda:

1. Open, normal ritual, fines, happy dollars, quiz

2. Growing our club: what directions should we take, how do we do it?

 -The process involved

-Getting people interested, getting our name out there

-Addressing constraints; more variety in meeting times, new categories of membership, a membership working group?

-The importance of social events

A community event in the Park (Labor Day, after the golf tournament?)

A bicycle ride or walkathon (when?)

        Other events in the Park

        Other suggestions/ideas

3. Followup on decisions taken at our last meeting

    -Annual Golf Tournament

    -Dining Out raffle

    -Music Night

4. Projects:

    -Community Center

    -Grammar School

    -International

    -Pandemic, Other?

5. District Grant Application

6. Selection of Officers and Working Group Heads

7. Current Events:

    -Pandemic Golf Tournament

-Hospital 50th celebration on June 27th

    -Fourth of July

8. Awards Night and Debunking on June 24th, Venue tbd.

9. Close

This will be a hybrid meeting, at the Cafe, with the usual zoom codes:

ID 203 209 3680

Passcode Mendocoast

Passcode 736187

Lets all (except Suzanne and Roccie) get to the Cafe and enjoy each other's company.
