Hi all,
A number of you have asked how I am doing, and are concerned about transmission. Amongst others, Dr. Miller provided some helpful advice which was that it normally takes about 4 days after exposure for a test to show positive, and that one should therefore be tested 5-7 days after exposure and isolate in the meantime. I hope I have gotten this right!!
Anyhow in my case the most likely date of exposure is Monday December 13 when I picked up my granddaughter in SR. She, like I, has tested positive and her most likely date of exposure was Saturday December 11 when she went with a friend from school from UCDAvis to a home in Marin in which the father subsequently tested positive. She tested positive on Thursday December 16 and I tested positive on Friday December 17, so--I am now 6-8 days after possible exposure depending upon when I actually contracted the disease--on first contact with her or later.
We are both fine and have no symptoms now. I never had any symptoms, perhaps because I was boosted, and she got mild symptoms, aches and pains, the day before she was tested. I am hoping none of you get this but this is clear evidence we all need to be careful. I have alerted Janis Porter, whom I saw on the 15th to pick up clothes, and will call the Cafe today. I will probably test again tomorrow and will let you know how it goes.
In the meantime, while your Past President was isolating at home, your hard-working current President, Toby Wade, "the man who gets things done", picked up our warm clothing and delivered them to Hospitality House where some will go to the Coastal Street Medicine program and the rest to the House itself. If you look on the Hospitality House website you will see that warm clothing is a priority for the Street Medicine program and Toby told me the gift was much appreciated. Somebody will get a wool Armani jacket that belonged to Karen's Mom. Janis donated John's jackets, boots, sweaters etc which was a thoughtful thing to do in his memory. Toby had the entire bed of his pickup full of our stuff and there was some in the passenger seat too. Most of us donated, an effort we can take satisfaction from.
So Rotarians, be happy, celebrate the season and your friends and family, stay safe and cross your fingers that you get a message that I am negative, soon.
Happy holidays,
Jeff Stubbs
