Dear Mendocino Rotarians,
This email below a request to send a small bit of info for the District
5130 newsletter on the website about recent goings on. I wanted to send
this to everyone so that the committee chairs could think about it, discuss
among yourselves and send something- especially a photo or two with
captions to Tom. Deadline is Sept 28th. Guenter has photo's Matt has
photos, and there is text online from the rent Beacon write ups, Heather
has the view plus minutes from meetings, plus Jerry has penned some great
pieces. I am asking everyone to recognize how this brings awareness about
the actions of our small (and growing) club to a larger audience.
CHAMBER MIXER
Additionally- Tonight is a Chamber mixer at the Ford House. We are chamber
members. I wish I could go, but I have other plans.
Thanks,
Donna

Subject: Rotary - REMINDER TO SEND MATERIAL (BY SEPTEMBER 24) for DISTRICT
5130 NEWSLETTER - for END-SEPTEMBER ISSUE
Dear Art,
To: District 5130 AG's, DG Bob Rogers, District Committee Chairs (fm BR
8/12 email)
CC: District 5130 Leadership: Barbara Spangler (DG Elect), Wulff Reinhold
(IPDG), District Administration: Kim McDonald (Secretary), Barbara Barney
(Treasurer), Michael Juric (Advisory), Rob Stewart (Abuse Prevention)
This is a reminder - and anxious request - for you to send me material for
the -end-September District 5130 Newsletter (second edition). So far I
have received only several inputs and photographs. I can't send out a
newsletter if you do not help me.
Remember we have added District 5130 Committee Chairs' (fm. BR 8/12 email)
updates - in addition to reports from all AG's about their respective clubs.
So, for AG's: (Refer to issue published July 30) - A half page (more is
OK) from each of you updating us on your respective clubs current
activities, major projects, events. No need to repeat things from the July
30 newsletter. Please provide several photos (see below for photo format)
and we will include as many as we can.
For District 5130 Committee Chairs: (May use material, but summarize, from
your written reports to DG Bob before the last Board meeting -- or you may
submit, up to a page, your new summary of what is going on in your
committee.) Remember that this newsletter is distributed to all (2,325)
Rotarians in District 5130 so you may want to summarize. Please include -
in the first sentence or two - what your committee is all about, what it
does, and how it relates to RI projects. Please provide several (local
please) photos relevant to your committee. Send your written material in
an email (or attach Word file) and send photos separately as an email
attachment (Remember I do the photo placement.)
I have attached, below, a copy of my September 7 email request - It has
more detailed instructions.
Try to get this to me by September 24 - If you need a couple more days then
let me know so I can hold space. If you have questions or need my help,
please email me at TRBoag at aol.com or call me (Cell: 650-868-9616
<(650)%20868-9616>, Home: 707-823-6168 <(707)%20823-6168>) It takes me
about a week to put the newsletter together.

THIS IS A COPY OF MY SEPTEMBER 7 EMAIL -- DISTRICT 5130 NEWSLETTER --
REQUEST FOR MATERIAL FOR NEW END-SEPTEMBER ISSUE
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
To: District 5130 AG’s, DG Bob Rogers, District Committee Chairs (fm. BR
8/12 email)
CC: District 5130 Leadership: Barbara Spangler (DG Elect), Wulff Reinhold
(IPDG), District Administration: Kim McDonald (Secretary), Barbara Barney
(Treasurer), Michael Juric (Advisory), Rob Stewart (Abuse Prevention)
Last July 30 we published (11:21 am) the first edition of our *District
5130 Newsletter*. It went out to *all District Rotarians (2,325 at recent
count)* and tracking reports it was *opened by 47 percent* *of addressees*
– a good percentage for a new newsletter. We received many positive
comments about the newsletter, one complaint (“font size too small”), and a
number of suggestions on how to increase benefit – including adding
District Committee happenings. But wait… There’s more!
Recently DG Bob held a board meeting and asked most district committee
chairs to submit a written report ahead of the meeting. Most did and Bob
shared those reports with me. Frankly, I had no idea that there were so
many district level committees (although I’ve met many of the chairs and
recognize the names) so reading the reports (with a little help from “My
Rotary”) suggests opportunity to expand the scope of the newsletter. DG Bob
agrees – saying someone at board meeting suggested the committee reports.
How many of the 2,325 District members have any idea what the Ethics,
Vision, IFL, RLI, RFE, or Club Extension committees do? Maybe some would
like to participate?
Recall that the purpose of this newsletter is transparency for all district
5130 Rotarians – a place to share ideas, inspire other clubs to try new
programs, offer or request assistance, and recognize progress. It is a
place to talk about club and district goals – and needs for success. It is
not intended to compete with any club newsletters or webpages. With your
help and suggestions, we can educate a lot of people.
*To publish Edition #2 of our newsletter by the end of September we request
– by September 24**:*
1. *DG and all AG’s* update your portions with current information about
their respective clubs and activities – and near-term plans. (Don’t repeat
Edition #1 material – A newsletter is saved, they already have the last
edition.) Try to get material from all your clubs. *Get some new
photographs.*
1. *District Committee Chairs* – *Some of you* consider re-editing your
board meeting reports for distribution to a larger audience. Take out
detail not of general interest or confidential.
(It is better for you to do this as you are the experts and the involved.)
1. *Add a first sentence or two that explains what the committee is all
about, what it does, and how it relates to individual club and RI goals.*
2. Describe the committee’s *timescale* – meetings, events.
3. Mention *names* of major players in the committees – people and clubs
– Credit progress.
4. Supply a *photograph* or two – if it fits – and if it is a local
photo, not off the web.
(Photos should be supplied separately from text – We do editing and
placement. They should be good quality digital photos, .jpg files, color,
with a file size of 0.5 MegaBytes or better. Photos will be cropped to less
than 3 inches by 5 inches – or smaller – so get close.)
1. *Target about a half page* (maybe full page) for your committee’s
section. We want to keep the entire newsletter from becoming a book.
2. Remember we do the editing – so it’s OK to send your write-up as a
plain email and a photo or two as an attachment. We’re flexible. Don’t
worry about font or spacing. Avoid bullets or numbering.
1. Let me, the Editor, help you make this easy. Email (TRBoag at aol.com)
or call cell (650-868-9616 <(650)%20868-9616>) or home (707-823-6168
<(707)%20823-6168>) with any questions.
