The Board meets today, at noon in the Mendocino Hotel. All attendees
please bring $10 to defray the cost of lunch, as usual. Any club member
may attend and participate in discussion, but only board members can vote.

There is NO NOON MEETING this week, instead we meet 7 PM at the Hill House
for some really nice *hors d*'*oeuvres* (thanks Jamie) and wine for $15 a
person. There will be no guest speaker this week.

After mingling we will discuss our club's future plans for fundraisers, and
how that affects our budget for the various Avenues of Service. This
discussion will include whether to forgive the $26-29,000 loan our club
made toward the purchase of Rotary Park.

Prior to my taking office, we were well on the way to cancelling our Art
Auction, to be replaced by a raffle, which has yet to be scheduled. Amidst
the discussions were concerns that a few hard working club members were
doing the lion's share of the work, especially the ticket sales and
acquiring raffle items, and those few were getting burned out. Those fears
were realized when Jennifer asked for a Leave of Absence so her focus could
return to her children.

I had a vision for this year of shifting our club's primary focus from
fundraising to service projects. A few of our members embraced that
vision, but the number of hands going up are few. I am partly at fault due
to last minute appeals (like this one) but such is my nature. I can work
harder on this, but now I am looking for some clues on direction as I lead
our club for the next 9 months.

There are likely to be strong opinions expressed, and likely one or more
crucial votes. I am sure we will have an enjoyable time overall.
Significant others are welcome, use your judgement and come ready to share.

President John
