Dear Ms. Courtney,
This is a continuation from the GuideStar article here:
http://trust.guidestar.org/blog/top-strategic-mistakes-nonprofits-make-part-2
The sixth one listed is 'Failing to deliver some services online'.
What are your services, Ms. Courtney? You're a public radio station.
What services do _you_ deliver online? Let's do a little comparison.
Between KZYX and the Anderson Valley Advertiser (AVA).
The AVA offers a public forum. Where anybody can go public with
anything. What do you offer? Name one programmer who's allowed an
open public forum -- including criticism of KZYX management. Take
your time, Ms. Courtney.
Okay. You've got an online discussion group. That's closed to the
public. With no minutes available to the public. Norman de Vall
has an online discussion group too. It's called KZYXTalk. It's
open to the public. Where anybody can speak their mind. And some
people do. With one exception -- anyone on the KZYX Board of
Directors. Yeah.
All right. You've got online Board of Directors meeting minutes.
But none for 2016. Mendocino TV has recorded all of them. And
has posted them online. At their expense. With a section for
public comment. Where anybody can speak their mind. And some
people do. With one exception -- anyone on the KZYX Board of
Directors. Uh-huh.
You publish editorials in the Ukiah Daily Journal. Objecting
to people who criticize KZYX management. They've got a public
comment section too. Where anybody can speak their mind. And
some people do. With one exception -- anyone on the KZYX Board
of Directors.
Your online presence is pure spin, Ms. Courtney. Your Board of
Directors never challenges the General Manager. Ever. Neither
do you. You're an online doormat, Ms. Courtney. And so is your
Board of Directors. Your employees wipe their feet with you.
Online. Which is why you don't offer some services online. You
can't. All you can do is kowtow. To your employees. Online.
I'd like to challenge you to a debate, Ms. Courtney. At the
Mendocino TV studio. About who follows KZYX policy. Who doesn't.
And what that's done to KZYX. I'll bring John Sakowicz. You can
bring your 'mystic nomad' -- John Coate. He can show the world
how he cut KZYX's debt in half. Why five years worth of Form
990s were hidden from the Board of Directors. And where all of
those so-called audits came from.
Online.
Sincerely,
Scott M. Peterson
