[Kzyxtalk] Letter to the Editor - KZYX Board Election

I’m a long-time supporter of public radio.  I had heard about problems at KZYX, so I wentto the board/membership meeting in May 2013. One of the members asked for an update on efforts to build a Ukiahstudio.  The chair of the board saidthat, although they would allow member comments, they would not respond.  This was my first hint that the organization’slines of communication had broken down.
Since then, I have learned that all the committees set up tohelp and oversee management of the station are nonexistent.  No program advisory committee to work with theprogram director.  No finance committeeto work with the general manager.  Nopersonnel committee to work out grievances so people don’t have to turn toregulators or air laundry in public.  Noinfrastructure committee to provide a critical mass of knowledge and wisdom tokeep us on the air and move us forward.
It is not weakness to rely on these committees.  It is strength, a strength built on faith inthe members and the public.  And it isnot anarchy to want a station of the people, by the people, and for thepeople.  It is our best destiny.
