I Am not Safe
I am not safe, my children,
you are right,
I am foolish, I take too many risks!
An irrepressible old lady, probably,
an unreliable mother, maybe,
a wild creature without culture, oh yes,
an uncivilized visitant, that too,
an unlikely warrior, a naive dreamer, an ignorant moujik,
and all of it. . . but just maybe.
I want to tell of the safety I have found:
when I trust the universe, the universe trusts me to be safe.
My safety can only be measured
by the amount of faith I put into my next step,
a casual act to me,
a foolish one to many.
My safety resides only in the trust I put
into what is presented to me,
on a road that reveals itself as I go
when I enter the Mystery,
a path I follow knowing that I don’t know
but that my foot knows. . . every inch of the way.
If I don’t see obstacles, obstacles will not appear
even when they are pointed to me.
Some say I am foolish,
others that I am braver than most,
but bravery has no measure.
When others go to the very end of their limits,
the amount of courage it takes them is the same as mine
when I go to the end of mine.
There no longer is any other.
You are right, I am out of my mind,
but out of my mind is where I want to be
for it confers safety to my heart
and two hearts placed close to one another
soon come to beat in unison.
Together, we are in no danger
for danger like sin can never exist
in a world where everything fits.
