So what can we do to prepare for the challenges of Climate Change and Climate Migration?

Join Caryl Hart Chair of the California Coastal Commission, Mendocino’s Coastal Supervisors Gjerde and Williams, staff from the Mendocino Council of Government, the Cities of Fort Bragg & Point Arena, Mendocino County Planning Director Julia Krog, as well as Tim Robustelli author & senior analyst at New America, a Washington DC based think tank, to discuss Climate Migration and Coastal Planning Issues at the GrassRoots Institute zoom webinar next Thursday, September 19th from 3 pm to 5 pm.


Webinar Information:


3:00 to 3:45 pm - New America senior policy analyst, Tim Robustelli will make a presentation regarding a recent report Climate Migration’s Impact on Housing Security in the United States: Recommendations for Receiving Communities<https://www.newamerica.org/future-land-housing/reports/climate-migrations-impact-on-housing-security/> prepared by his organization and its policy implications at the Federal, State and Local levels.  Coastal Commission Chair, Caryl Hart and Mendocino’s coastal district Supervisors Dan Gjerde and Ted Williams will offer thoughts and discuss ways to manage coastal land use and climate migration impacts at the state and local levels going forward.


3:45 to 4:30 pm - Mendocino County Planning Director Julia Krog, Fort Bragg Special Projects Director Sarah McCormick, Point Arena Planner Marie Jones and Mendocino Council of Government Consultant Loretta Ellard will answer questions and update the public on current and planned initiatives by their agencies pertinent to coastal zone planning, land use management and updating Local Coastal Programs.  Regional Coastal Commission staff have also agreed to be part of this discussion.


4:30 to 5:00 pm - Public Question and Answer Time - Q&A time regarding Blue Economy, Climate Migration, Climate Change, Local Coastal Program updates, Coastal Planning, etc….
