> The Frogs
>
> When the crispness of midnight
> calls my body to water,
> I step naked outside my room
> into a silence
> like a damp shroud
> slapping my body
> short of breath.
>
> The moon falls out of tune
> and I know something is
> missing
> but I don’t know what
> it is,
> until dreams track
> the absence
> of what used to lull my flesh
> into nebulous expansion:
> the frogs are no longer singing.
>
> Have we sprayed the deadly spit,
> cut short trees’ trajectory once too many,
> have we imported the cannibal toads,
> have we made the language sin?
>
> All night the moon calls the answer
> hidden within the question.
>
> Don’t worry, keep moving
> advises the dawn,
> you have become corrupt staying in one place,
> keep walking and you’ll be whole,
> walk woman’s grateful curves,
> walk that generous nipple,
> walk slowly into surrender
> consider
> how light falls equally on everything
> foretelling a color for each creation,
> walk and listen,
> gaze through divine eyes
> hear the celestial song. . .
>
> The frogs have always been there.
