Restlessness on a Day of Rest

 

There is always

            that need for something else!

 

Before meditation

a cup of coffee maybe,

a little something to eat,

            a total clean up of the house would be really good,

what about calling a friend for a hike in the forest,

            better check my email first,

it’s getting cold maybe I should build a fire

            or I really should go shopping,

why not finish the few dishes first,

            and there is that wall in the bathroom that needs a coat of paint. . .

 

                        Oh forget it,

                        I’ll just vegeout and watch a movie!

 

                                                            *********

            Sit down. Take a breath.

What’s all the distraction about,

what am I running from?

 

            Is it my need to express,

to put down words

on the dreaded blank page?

 

            Is it the silence that comes

when all else disappears?

            The emptiness?

 

                                                            **********

 

            Will you sit down.

                        Now.

What are you really afraid of?

 

                        It’s that huge responsibility:

                        the infinite power to be

                                    Me.
