[Thespiritexpress] World Ocean Day...

Happy World Ocean Day to you and to us, dear Sue.
It is difficult to imagine that what we see of the ocean here is even part of the pollution at large. When I think back to Northern Bali, it was very distasteful and sickening to swim without plastic wrap and bags drifting and clinging to swimmers' arms and legs and bodies with each stroke. The custom is to burn refuse and the heavy rains wash everything down into the ocean, which cleans up the compound. Sadly, not that long ago the lightly fragrant banana leaves were used to wrap food and what nots, but now it is plastic that is proudly used instead. The well-meaning people don't stop to think about the journey of the plastic in the ocean, destroying the once phenomenal coral reefs, giant turtles and marine life.
If only the education available to us, could be dispersed in those areas.
Thank you, Sue Magoo, for being so connected to nature and standing up for its place by making us aware of the role we really must play.
With love,
Lydia

Beautiful beloveds,

Tomorrow is World Ocean Day (WOD) and I just wanted to share with you about this annual event (year round for a nature loving woman like myself):

World Ocean Day rallies the world for ocean and climate action on 8 June and throughout the year. We work in partnership with youth leaders, zoos, aquariums, museums, and other youth-focused organizations, as well as a huge range of diverse organizations and businesses from all sectors in a growing global network. Together, we effectively engage the public, inform policymakers, and unite the world to protect and restore our shared ocean and create a stable climate. Join the growing global movement in June and continue to grow the engagement and action year-round!

Canada was the first country to propose the idea at the Earth Summit in Rio back in 1992. It took another decade for it to be globally promoted and coordinated. Back in 2016, they added a World Ocean Day Youth Advisory Council. Back in 2019, there were 2000+ events and 140+ countries that participated. In 2020, it took a Conservation Action Focus of protecting 30% of our lands and ocean by 2030. Recently, world leaders made a global commitment to protect 30% of our blue planet by 2030 (30x30). To create a healthy ocean with abundant wildlife and to stabilize the climate, it’s critical that 30% of our planet’s lands, waters, and ocean are protected.

Your support will help meet the 30x30 goal! Please share this with friends, family, and visitors. You, and the folks you share it with, can go to the link below to vote on your reasons why you think we need to have 30x30.

in loving gratitude for this precious planet,
              Sue
