Poem to my grand-daughter on the day she was born. (I can’t read it tomorrow because I will be flying back home.)
Her name came to the parents the day after her birth.
Aya Ray
Thank you child of the new day
for being born
and drawing out from within all of us
the wholehearted fairy tale princess,
uncovering the heroin of myths and legends,
and revealing the magical land
where the new born without a name
swims back to the wombs of father and mother
through the dispelled amniotic fluid
through the dissolving of generations
through all the disincarnate beings
that make up her stellar cluster
to retrieve her true name
never forgotten
but escaping enunciation.
As sparkling drops of rain
pause expectantly
waiting for the sun to warm them up
until they let go
of their frozen hold on branches
and with a last sparkle
gently fall onto the dark earth
into a mysterious world full of life possibilities,
her ever-flowing fount appeases the thirst
of millions minuscule sentient beings
sauntering, swaying, dancing,
to welcome and embrace the new-comer,
that dawn spirit, goddess of light
that ray of sunshine
Aya.
