Golden Seams

Rain has covered the night
with her countenance of prayers

calling forth every undone promise
every broken dream

every lost love to the tent
of the mender who stitches

the world back together
on this Solstice

using the ancient Japanese art of
Kintsugi, mending broken ceramics

with fine lines of gold.

I drive up Little Lake
headed home through a storm

that threatens to bring down
one hundred year old trees

unsure of what the future holds
when three bear cubs

dash in front of my car
and for a moment we are joined

woman and wilderness
with such tender filaments

fragile yet filled
with golden seams

creating immense hope
for the coming year.
