>
> A Sacred Autumn Afternoon
>
> Oh dark energy be gone
> and be gone
> until the day
> when I can take you in
> without the danger of falling in.
> Meanwhile I can dance ever so lightly
> around you,
> I can sing and dance, dance and sing.
>
> Today we built a grave in the forest
> around the place
> where ancient Mimi’s tiny body rested.
>
> I see you Mimi coiled into a small,
> small ball, velvet like,
> curled up into yourself on the hard-won chair
> purring,
> black on white sheepskin,
> your withered body
> exuding so much loving energy
> towards those who would come close,
> close enough
> to hear the teeny purring.
>
> Today we went to the pond
> half-covered with aquatic foliage.
> In the slanted light espousing the water
> I beheld my son’s white body
> standing naked on a board
> paddling ripples
> silver
> on all that green.
> The improvised vessel came to a standstill
> and the last rays of the sun
> dissolved the dazzling wrinkles.
> Concentric circles radiated out
> from the body
> into infinity.
>
> This pond and I had communed many-a-day
> when I was alone in my contemplation
> but now our ‘little fur family’
> danced with new vitality.
>
> Oh dark energy you are gone
> as we blessed that day in Autumn
> and strolled to the orchard where we bit into
> apples, pears and plums
> dropping from overloaded branches,
> while our basket gracefully received
> the fragrant verbena we would infuse after supper.
>
> And the little family
> got home before dark
> to make dinner.
