*Prescribed burn on the Jenner Headlands*

The Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE), Sonoma-Lake-Napa
Unit plans to conduct a prescribed burn at The Jenner Headlands Preserve
Tuesday through Thursday, Oct. 23-25th, 2018, in partnership with The
Wildlands Conservancy. The prescribed burn will be located along the east
ridge of the Preserve, which is located north of the town of Duncans Mills.
The anticipated time for the prescribed burn will be between the hours of
8:30am and 4:00pm.



The Wildlands Conservancy created a shaded fuel break along the east-west
trending ridgetop through the property and the prescribed burn will help
maintain the effectiveness of the fuel break by consuming small sprouting
shrubs and trees and dead woody material on the ground with a low-intensity
fire.



Prescribed vegetation management burns are carefully planned and must meet
strict criteria for ecological benefit, weather parameters, smoke
management, and fire safety guidelines. When all conditions are met,
trained wildland firefighters conduct the burn, while monitoring the set
criteria, fire behavior, and designated fire control lines.
