Dear Friends,
This was a weekend of action for the nearly complete fence. Toby, Michael and I primed and painted the last 25 pickets and 2 front entrance posts, and Matt took the debris at the Community Center to the dump. I met with Peg at the Community Center on Thursday, and we agreed in principle, subject to discussion by our Boards:
1) to put a plaque honoring the work done on the fence, near the front entrance. Margaret will help us design and order the plaque.
2) to hold a community celebration event, jointly sponsored by Rotary and the Community Center, about Saturday April 25. Lets. all think this over, to see what we can do, and how to organize and promote it. I see it as helping in a very substantial way with our membership drive. We need to talk about how this could develop, but Peg and I talked about an event for anyone interested, but certainly for community center staff, rotarians, interactors, spouses and others who helped with the fence, at which we would provide hot dogs, popcorn and soft drinks (Toby has said we should do filet mignon not hot dogs). It would be out of doors, and in the playground, which means no alcohol. The CC is often able to get a donation for such an event from Costco, and I speculated we might be able to ask Harvest Market for a matching donation.
It will take another week or so to make the caps for the front entrance posts, then we will put the posts in the ground and set the pickets, probably in the first week of April. I will call a couple of us to see who can help out once all the pieces are in order. We can discuss at our next club meeting, which will be March 26, with the Interact Club.
Cheers,
Jeff Stubbs
