Dear Rotarians,
We have received a very nice e-mail from Peg Levy Brown at the Community Center, thanking us for the work done on the School Street fence (it is finished except for final painting which we hope Interact will do). Please see her photo below, of the fence with lots and lots of kids and staff behind it.
We will be putting in the new fence along Pine Street in a couple of weeks. For that to happen we will prime and paint 240 pickets, 20 stringers and 11 posts. We have given 60 pickets to Sam at the Community Center, and are seeking volunteers to prime and paint another 180, in batches of 30. All you need is a space protected from rain, and a bench or sawhorses with stringers to put the pickets on. We have the primer and stain, and can provide brushes, rollers, paint pans and buckets.
We are planning for this batch to both prime (2 coats) and paint, so 3 coats in total. You have to lay the pickets out on the bench or stringers side by side, prime or paint the exposed side, let it dry, turn them over then do the other side. You can do a lot more if you can work continuously with breaks for drying in an inside space. It takes only about a half hour to do one side, so this amounts to 6-8 hours of work, spread out over several days, if you have inside space. If you have to do this outdoors it can still be done, but you will be looking at say two sides per day, six days minimum.
This is a great chance to work with the Community Center and your fellow Rotarians, it is a lot of fun and it is much appreciated, as shown in the photo below.
Please let me know if you can do 30-60 pickets and I will get them to you this week.
Cheers,
Jeff Stubbs
