Hello all,
Toby convened our regular club meeting yesterday at 12:00. We said the pledge, after which Matt Davis led us in remembering Jerry Karabensh. Several members spoke of him and his contributions to the club. We had 10 club members present and 2 guests, both speakers.
Jeff introduced Paul Davis and Matt Pullum who talked about the work they are doing for persons without accommodation at Hospitality House. Paul, the Executive Director, noted that they serve men, women and a few children, including a number of veterans, with a ratio of about 55% men and 45% women. They offer 24 beds for overnight accommodation, computer and other facilities, bathing and washing facilities, a mental health and street medicine program, transitional housing, counseling and support for moving out of the facility into longer term housing, employment etc. Matt, who now manages the initial intake center, said that he and his family had moved to the area from Laytonville in search of better opportunities and had arrived without a job or housing. He explained that Hospitality House had helped with their arrival issues and ultimately enabled them to find housing and work. During that process, which took several years, he decided he would like to give back to the facility and thus trained for and was awarded a job there as a manager who knew the House and services they provide from the inside out.  There was a lively discussion which focussed on outreach to other services such as MCC and the Church, finances and grant management. Overall, it was apparent that Hospitality House is providing a highly beneficial service for a needy part of our population, and doing it at a time when many other County services (such as road maintenance) are not keeping up with needs.
Following that discussion we talked about various avenues of service. Donna updated us on the Youth scholarships and checked in with her committee members to ensure they were reading the applications and would be ready to get together next week to prepare recommendations. Margaret said that she was working with Brandt to get checks for the various Community Service awards.
Jeff presented our very busy calendar through the end of this Rotary year, including speakers, with the following key provisions (see the attached):
Town Hall with Ted Williams on Thursday April 25. We will need help on organizing, getting out the flyers and inviting attendees. Jeff, Margaret and John C will do.
Spring Retreat at  Leona and Toby's Saturday April 27.
Begin acquiring dine out raffle prizes in May. Leona and Toby will initiate.
Community Service Awards ceremony May 9, Margaret will organize.
Youth Scholarship awards at the High School May 22, Donna will organize.
Club Awards Banquet Saturday June 15. Who will do this? Where?

Margaret said we have received 11 checks for the John Porter fund raiser, and expect more. she will begin drafting thank you letters to be signed by Toby.
Matt Davis will contact the Film Festival to speak on May 9.
The Hospital Foundation will speak on June 13.
We had earlier talked about a World Pollinator Day in the Park on May 19 but need someone to organize it.
All members, we need you to pitch in. That's the fun of Rotary. Find the things you like to do, join a committee or two, invite others to join.
Our next meeting will be April 25, Ted Williams speaker, the Town Hall.
That's all for now.
