Dear Rotarians,
The project described below, Paireve School Water Supply, with a cost of $1,000, is proposed for Board approval today. It is located in Vanuatu, and will be implemented by Santo Rotary, supervised by Rufino Pineda.
This will, if approved, complete our International Service portfolio for this year.
I am happy to inform you that our Fiji Rural Health project has been approved for funding by our district with a cost of $4,000 and reimbursement funding of $2,000.
Cheers,
Jeff Stubbs

Our club budget was approved at our last meeting, and it provides $5,000 for international service. $4,000 has been approved for the Fiji Rural Health Project.
I suggest we submit the Paireve School Water Project to be implemented by Santo Rotary for approval of our Board at its meeting on Thursday. The project is for installation of a water tank at a village school in South Santo, which we have all visited. It's cost is $1,000. It will be overseen by Rufino.
Rufino has said they will proceed with the project as soon as they receive our funds (see below) which we could send this week. I will fill out the necessary SBMC form.
Let me know if there is any objection, otherwise we will submit it for approval on Thursday.

Dear Rufino and colleagues,
Many thanks for the two project proposals described below.
We in Mendocino Rotary have been pretty late this year in getting our budget into shape, and will in fact not formally consider it until September 7, but it is out in draft and we have budgeted $5,000 for international assistance during the Rotary year. It breaks down into $4,000 for Fiji and $1,000 for Vanuatu, which we would like to go to one of the two projects. We are hoping that another club here in the US could pick the second project, or if that does not work perhaps we or Katikati could take it up later as the year develops.
We will leave it up to you, Rufino, to decide which project you would like to fund first, and we will let you know as soon as our budget is formally approved.
Cheers, and hope to see you soon.

Hi AllPlease find attached quotes and bank ref of Santo Rotary Club for Funding of 2 water projects in Santo. I have copied Heinrick our President and Naicker our Treasurer for records.I received request for a water tank from Paireve School in South Santo. They need a water tank at a newly built dormitory of the school were kids from bush are boarding. It is the only English speaking school from that area of South Santo, it is likely to develop in coming 3 years when sealed road will be implemented. 13 bridges to be built in next 2 years followed by new road, it will drain pupils from further away after completion of the road. The second water system is for a Women Community Hall at Stone Hill in Santo Central Bush. It is for a proactive women group regrouping over 50 households doing weekly food fundraising and running micro loans among community of Stone Hill area. The Hall is to accommodate sewing training for young mothers, traditional mat making, hygiene and health practices, food processing....For each project one 3000 liters polytank, gutters and fittings. Both quotes should come to $US2,000 with current exchange rate. If purchase is completed before 11th August we will have 5% further discount that will enable to get extra fittings (gutters hooks).Beneficiaries will assist with delivery costs and tank basement.Santo Rotary Club will fill in extra cost if exchange rate unable full payment (upon agreement of Heinrick & Naicker in cc).On behalf of our Santo RC members I would like to thanks Mendocino Rotary Club members for their long lasting assistance in supporting Vanuatu communities.Yours in RotaryRufinoInternational Project DirectorBoard member of Rotary Vanuatu Projects

Hi Rufino, glad your dip into Big Bay waters did not harm more than your I phone. Re your query we have an August 1 deadline for district grant requests so it looks like this one would have to be stand-alone. Cheers, Jeff

Hi allSorry for answering belatedly, I was with Australian Divers at Big Bay Santo looking for two wrecked planes from WW2. Had unexpected dive near the beach with my mobile in my pocket. Just bought a new phone so I have been 3 weeks out of the net and just catching up. Will discuss project with Heinrick and our Santo Rotarians and come back with you asap. Will it be a direct Grant or an international District Grant that we could match with our mutual Districts to x4 your $2,000?Best RegardsRufino

Hi Rufino, and many thanks for keeping us in the loop. Matt is now a well-earned International Chair, so what I say is subject to his concurrence, but---we are interested in another project with the school, but only after we have visited Vanuatu, looked at what we have accomplished, and build on that. We might go to Vanuatu next May or so, but nothing is definite yet.
In the meantime, we would like to do this Rotary year a village water, sanitation, health or livelihood project with RC Santo, and are thinking of a budget of say $2,000.
Hoping to hear from you, with news on a project, and hoping also that you are well and happy. We are all ok here, and our club is doing well too.
Cheers,
Jeff Stubbs

Hi Jeffry and MatthewI just found out that Port Vila RC has been approached by Zebedee and school board for building a new classroom. Would you be interested with Mendocino RC to take part in this project?. Keep in mind that the need remain the same is to educate close to their living place boys and specifically girls while avoiding them to do long risky walk toward town to go schools far away. Please share it also with Ketiketi RC as I don't have their contact details with me.Would you prefer do a project with us in Santo or an other island just let me know.Best RegardsRufino
