[Rotary] Subject: Rotary: Notes of the Meeting of Thursday January 26

Dear All,
We had our second regular meeting of the new year, convened by Second Vice President Susan Keller and held in the Mendocino Art Center. Members attending: Susan, Ray, Margaret, Toby, Leona, Grace, Brandt, Donna, John, Harold, Mike, Dean, Jeff (13). Others attending: Janis Porter, Debbie Lennox, Julie, Mitchell (4), total 17, our highest attendance of the last calendar year.  
After the preliminaries, Debbie gave an excellent presentation on the Mendocino Art Center and its' plans for the year. She described several changes in the strategic direction of the center, including a focus on wood fired ceramics, a children's program, a sculpture garden, featuring our native Pomo Indians, and a need to adapt to a world of digital imaging. The center had reroofed part of the buildings, was renovating some of the rental units, had received support from the Community Foundation, had underway a triple match fund raiser, and was seeking volunteers to help in implementing the various activities of the center.
Debbie's presentation was followed by visit to the children's art studio, where Julie gave an impassioned and very informative talk about the things the studio is doing. Amongst others, she talked about the need to encourage more diversity, and to provide some support in the way of furniture, equipment and supplies. 
We thanked Debbie and Julie for their presentations, and talked about working together. Amongst others, the Center  had space for gatherings and meetings that could be used by the club.                                                                                                                                                        
We concluded at 1:20 with thanks to Susan and Debbie for organizing and conducting an excellent meeting, enjoyed by all.
Our next meeting will be a Board meeting to be held on Thursday, February 2, at Preston Hall. 
All members are invited to attend. However, the main focus should be on decisions to be made by Board members. 
Officers, avenue of service chairs and other key activity leaders are expected to attend and speak to their areas of responsibility.
