Folks, I forgot to mention two additional developments we talked about at the captioned meeting:
Carstens and Suzanne are planning a trip to Mendocino and will be resident here during April 28-May 27 (John C has more info). Perhaps we can enlist their assistance to do a community event (a Ukraine benefit?) in the Park. And,
We might all consider donating money via shelterbox for Turkey/Syria earthquake relief, and club funds to match.
Thanks, Jerry and Susan, for organizing a very good meeting.
Cheers,

Nine of us, comprising 8 Rotarians and a Guest, met in Preston Hall.
Jerry chaired, Susan backed him up, and Terry Swift of the Chamber of Commerce gave a talk on how the Chamber is adjusting to our ever-changing community, with particular reference to lessons learned.
We did the pledge, thought for the day, happy dollars and fines.
We then settled in to listen to Terry, who set the stage by mentioning that the membership of the Chamber had shrunken from about 400 to around 300, principally as a result of the aging of our community and the pandemic which made in-person attendance at events a challenge. They saw a need to reach out to a younger crowd, much as we do.
Terry said that as on way to address the challenge, the Chamber had developed their facebook page, which was now going to 1,200 addresses, as an alternative to the traditional website. She clarified that there is no charge for Facebook, and posts can be made by non-members.
The Chamber had dropped the old business guide/directory as a way to save on costs, but still produced a brochure on their activities.
For the whale festival they were planning a downtown wine bar sponsored by merchants on March 18 in Fort Bragg. Nothing was proposed in Mendocino, which traditionally put something on, on the first Saturday of March.
We talked about ways to streamline our responses to inquiries, with one or possibly two e-mail addresses to circulate incoming messages and handle responses.
Brandt asked if we could update our brochure. Jeff said he was working on an update of the website.
The meeting concluded with a drawing which left the joker still in the pack of cards. The pot is now $500!!
The next meeting will be a Board meeting on Thursday March 2 at 12:00 at Preston Hall.
Margaret will convene a meeting of the Community Services group after the Board meeting.
