I think we should help and I support sending $1,000 if we have that amount in the club’s disaster fund budget. Regardless of the decision made by email this item needs to be on the agenda for discussion and approval at the next board meeting.

Dear Rotarians:

In our Club Meeting today we spoke informally about the tragic fires in Maui. We didn’t get to the subject of sending money from our ‘disaster fund’ budget. I know many of our group would like to help in some way. Money would be the quickest and easiest. I would like to propose that we approve, via eMail, using some of our budget to immediately send some money to the Relief Fund set up by the Hawaii Rotarians. See below note from Hawaii District Governor Mark Merriam and also the note from our Tom Boylan.

PLEASE ASAP RESPOND BY VOTING:
I APPROVE SENDING MONEY TO MAUI FUND
(. ) YES (. ) NO
IF YES, I THINK THE AMOUNT SHOULD BE ($ )

I will consider 10 votes a majority to pass or fail

Toby Wade
(X) Yes
($1000)

Pease vote ASAP

YIRS,
R Anthony ‘Toby’ Wade

Fellow Rotarians, It was difficult to see the devastation that has engulfed Maui, Hawaii, especially having spent time in the charming town of Lahaina. Today the town is ashes, and many homes in Maui are lost to the tragic fire that is still raging. I am sharing a message from Hawaii's District 5000 Governor asking for our help. Please consider passing this information to others who have experienced the beauty of Maui, or have the heart and means to help with a donation of any kind.

DG Mark Merriam shared the following:

Maui No Ka Oi
August 9, 2023, was a tragic day for our Rotarians, families, and friends on the Island of Maui. The fires across the island have changed lives forever. Truly devastating. Our sympathy, thoughts, and prayers are with everyone impacted.
As people of action, we can take immediate action. As we come together to recover and rebuild, we need to support each other. We need to Create Hope for Maui.
Through our Rotary District 5000 Foundation, a relief fund has been established. Foundation President Dave Hamil and Treasurer Sharon Amano will handle all donations. A committee will be organized shortly to find the greatest needs for the distribution of monies. A single fund will be the most helpful over time to provide the most significant benefits.
Please consider donating to this special fund, Maui Fires Relief Fund. <https://www.paypal.com/donate/?hosted_button_id=6C4K2SDUY8FUG&fbclid=IwAR3cZqXzyeKevzIQLslWiQOO_86Vc_WCV4vU6mBHQ_sYYnLXZ1nco8Lnqp0>
Mahalo to the Rotary Club of Waikiki for collecting monies at their lunch meeting today. These are the first contributions to the fund.
Please also widely share this opportunity to help.
Stay safe, take care, and mahalo for creating hope.
