Yesterday we met following the agenda below, which called for a Board meeting followed by a regular meeting. This e-mail serves as the Minutes of the Board Meeting and the Notes of the Regular Meeting.
Board Meeting
Jeff opened the meeting and we counted attendees, who included Pete, Jeff, Dean, Mike, John C, John P, Donna, Susan K, Gary, Jerry and Toby as well as Scott, Lavender Grace Cinnamon and Roccie. Matt joined in later, for the regular meeting. Jeff, Mike, John C/John P, Gary, Jerry and Toby are all Board members so there were seven present which was a quota.
Lavender presented the concept and structure of the Bee Bold Alliance which is supportive of Rotary International's focus on the environment as well as the Club and Foundation activities in Rotary Park. The Alliance supports actions to protect the environment particularly as it affects pollinators, and pollinators themselves. It was revealed that this is a voluntary association which carries no financial obligation for the Club a motion was made by Mike Sandys that the Club join the Alliance and sign the Pollinator Protection Pledge. The motion was seconded and unanimously approved.
Jeff said that provided the Foundation also approved the  Club would join the Alliance and urged members to sign the Pledge individually.
Lavender and Donna presented the proposed arrangements for celebrating World Bee Day in Rotary Park, which will involve chants, dancing, short talks, tables manned by about 13 like-minded NGOs and expected attendance of say 50-100 persons. The BBA is taking care of the arrangements, and will provide recording equipment and an MC. Jeff asked if the arrangements were being discussed with the Mendocino Rotary Foundation, and Jerry assured us they were. We discussed whether it would be safe to have a gathering of the size proposed and were advised it would be safe because it was out of doors and there was space for social distancing where necessary. All attendees would be asked to follow the current pandemic rules for masking and distancing. Those who had been vaccinated need not wear masks while those who not been vaccinated should wear them. We discussed whether it was necessary to inform the sheriff's office or any other office of the gathering and were told it was not necessary.
Jeff said that the gathering in the Park, celebrating an area of focus of Rotary and involving like-minded NGOS, youth and other local supporters of the BBA movement was the type of gathering we had hoped could happen in the Park.
We decided to go ahead with the celebration and thanked Lavender and Donna for arranging it for us.
The meeting concluded at 12:30.
Regular Meeting
Toby chaired the regular meeting, which focussed on what people liked about Rotary, what they didn't like and where they thought the club could go next year.
We universally said we wanted to get back to regular, in-person get-togethers while continuing to zoom in a hybrid mode so that we could include members who are not resident.
Pete lead off by saying we need new members, and younger members (which will not be difficult to accomplish given that many of us are young at heart but perhaps less so in body).
Dean looked forward to a transition to in-person meetings, more camaraderie and more community events.
John C spoke of more cooperation with the Fort Bragg club.
John P said he would like more people to show up for meetings.
Susan said she would like us to meet for lunch, and plant more trees.
Jeff said he would like to see more social contact, and more engagement on the part of committee heads.
Roccie suggested a half-day retreat to sit back and discuss in some depth how we could reinvent ourselves.
We talked about possible venues for lunch. Mendocino Hotel seems to be out of the picture. John Innes has said we could use St. Anthony's and they would offer it to us at a low cost. Jeff and Toby will explore and see what we can do, and the sooner the better.
We talked also about reaching out to members who have not been attending meetings, of which there are 6 or 7, and of recognizing the work done by those who have picked up the slack. Jeff and Toby will make some calls, while those who are closest friends with the various persons should call them.
We all need to thank those who are working so hard for us, in the Park and elsewhere, and contribute to the work where we can.
Jeff brought out  that we are moving toward the deadline for district grants, and suggested that all committee chairs put together suggestions in their areas of responsibility.
Susan asked if we could do international work in Mexico. Jeff responded that it could be considered, but would have to go the committee, which will be reconstituted for the year ahead.
During the rest of month we will consider holding a club retreat, and continue to talk about where we are going, committee leadership and membership.
There will be a regular meeting next week, on the 13th, followed by a celebration of World Bee Day, in the Park.
Let me know if there are any significant errors or things left out.

 Hi all,
This Thursday, May 6, we will have a brief Board meeting to discuss and hopefully approve the club's membership in the Bee Bold Alliance and discuss the arrangements for use of the Park on May 16 to celebrate World Bee Day.
Then we will go into a regular meeting with the main purpose being to  talk about the directions each of us would like our club to take in 2021/22, working under the assumption that we will gradually open this summer and fall.
I know some of you do not like zoom, and some have been strained time wise to the limit by the difficulties imposed by the pandemic, your families and your employment, but this would be time to attend our zoom meeting if you possibly can.
Each of us should come prepared tp talk about the things he/she likes about the club, the things he/she dislikes, and the ways he/she would like the club to develop next year, which can range from the very general (get smaller, get larger) to the specific (project proposal for a district grant next year).
Committee Chairs have a particularly important role so please be sure to join us and speak on your subject areas. If there is nothing new to report, then please say so, the important thing is to let us all know where we are.
We will later this month talk about which committees you would like to serve on, and which you might be prepared to lead.
Roccie and Scott are joining the club and will be inducted asap. I have invited Lavender to sit in to discuss the Bee Bold Alliance and World Bee Day.
Agenda for May 6:
1) Open at 12:00, Board Meeting focused on the Bee Bold Alliance and World Bee Day.
2) Open of the Regular Meeting: pledge, pin check, happy dollars, quiz
3) Roundtable on what we have done, what we liked, what we didn't and where we could be going.
4) Financial report and replacement of Treasurer: Harold
5) Youth Report (focus on scholarships): Donna and Jody
6) Park and Community Affairs report: Matt and John Cottle
7) Pandemic Golf Report: Jeff
8) Program for the rest of the month and close: Jeff
