Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Today we had another useful and I hope enjoyable zoom meeting, attended by members Jeff, Pete, Harold, Toby, Brandt, Mike, Ray, John Porter and Susan Keller, guests Roccie Hill and Scott Roat and speaker Jason Morse of MUSD
Following the usual introductory remarks, happy dollars, pin check etc. Jason gave an excellent presentation of what it feels like to be head of an education system when there are so many different and deeply concerned views in the community. Following a period of using primarily distance learning the schools of MUSD will reopen in stages during mid-March to mid-April for different age groups. During this reopening the schools will follow a combination of distance learning and regular classroom instruction. About 30 percent of families may choose not to come back to classroom instruction this year. Engagement of students has been a problem. The high school has created engagement teams to deal with this problem by identifying students who are not engaging, and reaching out to them. Sports were also being started.
Donna talked about the recent work with students from the Botany and Interact clubs in the Park, and about upcoming distribution of dictionaries, youth scholarships, RYLA and other youth-related events.
We talked about possible events to be held over the next several months which will include:
-A commemoration of John Porter's work with the club, to be held at our next Board meeting, on March 25, outside at Susan Keller's.-Bob Rogers to talk on the Rotary Foundations' work on Polio, on April 1.-Easter on April 4 (what will we do)?-Ryan Rhoades of MCCSD to speak about MCCSD and the adaptation to recent events on April 8.-District Training assembly on April 16 and 17 by zoom-Earth Day on April 22-RYLA April 30 to May 2 by zoom-Bee Day on May 16
As appropriate, these will be developed further by those responsible.
Harold talked about the recent Mendocino Rotary Foundation Board meeting which revealed several projects being gotten underway.
We closed with thanks to all at a little after 1:00    Jeff Stubbs
