Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Yesterday Mendocino Rotary met, following the outline below. Lavender Grace Cinnamon gave an engaging talk on pollinators and we talked about our meetings on Earth Day and World Bee Day. The talk and subsequent discussion took most of our time, so here is an update on where we are.
In attendance for the zoom meeting: Toby, Jeff, Pete, Matt, Scott, Donna, Suzanne and Carstens, Roccie, Lavender, Harold, Mike, Judy Martin, Carla Harris, Ray and Dean (16)
Lavender presented materials on the Bee Bold Alliance, and how Mendocino Rotary and its individual members could take up membership. We will raise the possible membership of our club in the BBA at our next meeting, following some further discussion with Lavender and others on what might be involved.
We have received an update on costs from Port Vila Rotary and the Victory School of Hope and will be evaluating the estimates shortly, with the aim of getting our funds off to Port Vila and Savusavu by the next meeting. All members who are contributing but who may not have sent your check to Harold yet please do so.
This weekend (April 16 and 17) is Rotary Training Assembly. Sign up if you are interested.
We meet next week on April 22 in the Park at 2:00 for a very brief ceremony in recognition of Earth Day and then for planting trees in the park and picking up trash around town. Donna, Matthew and I guess John C to organize and work out a program. Leona to take photos, and hopefully Robin Epley to attend to put together a story on the celebration. We can apply for a grant from the District of $100 with a brief article and photos.
We will celebrate World Bee Day on May 17 and this will be organized and led by Donna, Lavender and Ray. Lavender has put together a flyer which is great, but we will in the interest of being safe during the pandemic invite only Rotarians, friends and family.
We are planning a brief Board meeting for April 29 with one purpose being to talk as Rotarians about what is working for us, what is not working and where we could go next year--in terms of using the park, social events, funding, travel and membership.
It will be, weather permitting, an outdoor meeting at either Dean's house or my house.
I am hoping members who are not attending zoom meetings will attend this one, and help us envision the recovery from the pandemic that we all hope lies ahead.

 Dear Rotarians,
Tomorrow Thursday April 15 at 12:00 we will have a regular meeting of the Mendocino Rotary Club, conducted by zoom.
Lavender Grace Cinnamon, sustainable ecology advocate, will speak on the Bee Bold Alliance and its value in creating a sustainable food production and environmental systems. She will be introduced by Donna, who will also speak on the proposed arrangements for Earth Day, on April 22. We will begin on time, at 12:00, to give Donna and Lavender time to speak before Donna's lunch hour ends at 12:30.
We will have the usual preliminaries, including the pledge, pin check, anniversaries, birthdays, happy dollars etc.
Committee Chairs may give updates.
The Park is looking great, with Donna's work on the rhododendrons and other plantings and Matt's ongoing care.
The District Training Assembly will be held on April 16 and 17, please sign up.
World Immunization Week is April 24-30.
We recently heard from Bob Rogers on Rotary's efforts to eradicate polio. Lets all join in and contribute $10 or more a month for that effort.
The usual update on the pandemic would be useful. Hopefully we can talk soon about social events.

Rotary Park and the Pollinator Protector Pledge.
An Introduction to the Bee Bold Alliance with Lavender .:. Grace
The Bee Bold project began in 2015, and now it is time to offer it to our community and young leaders in the hopes of creating lasting change.
The mission of the Bee Bold Alliance is to renew biodiversity and sustain local food security through pollinator protection.
This goal is achieved in three ways: engage local businesses to ensure our work supports a healthy economy;develop young leaders to build the capacity for sustained, long-term transformation; and restore pollinator sanctuaries to provide critical infrastructure for renewed ecosystems.
The vision is to create a replicable model to be shared globally as a living-working model for regenerative community wellness. One part of this model is "to do no harm” and is illustrated in the Pollinator Protector Pledge  - https://beeboldalliance.org/pollinator-protector-pledge
Mendocino County has long been a leader and model of change. Lavender has been raised and educated in this innovative community and now is part of the World renewal project..
We will learn how the Bee Bold Alliance helps redefine the way we nourish ourselves with an abundant and beautiful ecology for generations to come.
