Dear All,
We had an excellent club meeting on April Fool's Day.
Persons present: Toby, Jeff, Roccie, John Porter, Bob Rogers, Dean Watson, Carstens Zehm, Mike Sandys, Brandt, Harold, Donna, John Cottle, Matt and Gary Hopper, a total of 14.
Bob Rogers spoke on Rotary's efforts at combatting polio worldwide, and talked about why he had personally been inspired to join Rotary's fight against polio.
Amongst others, said that the wild polio variant had almost been eliminated, and said that the Gates Foundation had helped develop an injectable vaccine to counter the vaccine induced variant.
Bob urged our members to support Rotary's anti-polio efforts by donating at least $10 a month to the International Rotary Foundation, and provided our club with a commitment form for our district which is attached.
Lets all get behind this and make the commitment to help eradicate polio.
The Board has approved the applications of Roccie Hill and Scott Roat to join the club. The next step will be to have a virtual breakfast with them (this normally involves the President, Treasurer and Secretary and the new member's sponsor) after which they can be inducted into the club.
Jeff referred to the decision made at the recent Board meeting to use the remaining $800 in International Service funding for Vanuatu ($300) and Fiji ($500), and said that those present at the meeting had pledged an additional $2,800, most of which is with Harold, making the total expected to go out $3,600. Thanks to Matt, Susan Keller, Dean, John Porter, Harold, Donna, Jeff and John Cottle for their generosity.
We talked about the golf tournament which is underway, although only two teams are currently playing. We need to develop a better spreadsheet to record scores, but for now it looks like Jeff and Toby shot a best ball 60 and Pete and Gary a 61 so the battle is joined. We hope others will join the fun.
Donna said that we would have a talk by Lavender Cinnamon on April 15, followed by Earth Day will be on April 22 and World B Day on May 16th.
The Park is looking good, thanks to the efforts of Matt, John, MHS students and others.
Ryan Rhoads will speak on April 8 about MCCSD and adjustments being made to deal with the looming water shortage in Mendocino.
If you would like to contribute to any of our projects, please send Harold a check, and
See you next Thursday.
