[Rotary] Memorial Day in the park

I totally agree, and I will help place flags and banners in the park, just
let me know when.

I think Matt's question is rhetorical, and that he knows the official
meaning of Memorial Day is to honor all the men and women who died while
serving in the military. It started after the US Civil War in 1868,
originally known as Decoration Day as families and friends decorated the
graves of the fallen. It only became an official federal holiday in 1971
as the Vietnam War was winding down.

What we can do is show our ongoing support for all of those who are today
serving in our military, potentially putting themselves in harm's way to
protect the rest of us. Placing flags and a banner are a fine idea. Along
with that let's all pause to reflect with gratitude on their sacrifices,
and realize that even with all of our daily concerns and worries we live
with more security of the vital things in life, those being food, clothing,
and shelter, than nearly all human beings in history.

"Never was so much owed by so many to so few." Winston Churchill
