*Attached is the latest financials for POLIO PLUS A/O MAY 20, 2019. You
have raised $ 149,259 towards ENDING POLIO since July 1. When the 2 for 1
contributions by the Gates Foundation is added ( $ 298,518 ), you have been
responsible for a total contribution of $ 447,777 toward saving children’s
lives. Our Pedal 4 fundraiser was included in this total & was responsible
for $57,800 of the $149,259.*

*Our  leading clubs are: Santa Rosa $19,728, Sebastopol $ 13,580,
Healdsburg $ 9230, Petaluma Sunrise $ 7047, Ft. Bragg $ 6893, Santa Rosa
Sunrise $ 6517, Calistoga $ 6018, Mendocino $ 5235, South Ukiah $4828,
Sebastopol Sunrise $ 4641, Middletown $ 4492, Napa Sunrise $ 3985, Crescent
City $ 3626, Napa 3598, Arcata Sunrise $ 3531, Sonoma Valley $ 3350,

*Sadly I am still reporting 6 clubs with zero contributions this Rotary
year for POLIO PLUS. Traditionally our district has maintained a 100% club
participation for many years. My hope is that since this will be my last
year (since 2002-03) as your district chair, we will still maintain our
100% participation towards ending polio.* *I have ask P.D.G. Bob Rogers to
contact those 6 presidents asking them to survey their members – asking
them to financially support the # 1 goal of our ROTARY FOUNDATION – SAVING
CHILDREN’S LIVES – BY ERADICATING THE POTENTIALLY DEADLY POLIO VIRUS. *

*Also this year we are seeing many clubs who have not met their funding
goals for POLIO PLUS. Again my hope is that some clubs are holding funds
rather than efficiently  transmitting them to our Rotary Foundation
specific to POLIO PLUS. Yes, we are substantially behind last years
contributions but again my hope is that these numbers will substantially
increase prior to June 30, 2019. *

*Thanks to the ongoing very generous 2-1 contributions by the Gates
Foundation, your contribution will insure that a parent will never face a
morning when their son or daughter might wake up paralyzed by the polio
Rotary world. I PERSONALLY WILL NEVER FORGET THAT MORNING AS A 6 YEAR OLD
IN 1945.*

*So where as we today in terms of the total eradication of the virus. Our
primary concern remains Pakistan. Of the 22 cases globally since 1.1.19, 15
are in Pakistan & 7 cases in Afghanistan. Last year Pakistan had only 12
documented cases of paralytic polio in 2018 so the increase is very
concerning. Steps are being taken by Rotary and our multi-national partners
to reverse this dangerous trend. I will update this in my next email In our
progress.*

   - *In closing, I want to leave you with this fact. Since 1988, you have
   been responsible for saving millions upon millions of children’s lives.
   Protecting many times that number from post polio syndrome, a debilitating
   chronic after effect of the polio virus attacking & killing motor neurons
   which children in 3rd world countries will never recover from. They will
   never have the opportunity of a normal childhood,  or of a productive life
   free of constant pain. Most will be outcasts with a shortened lifespan.
   Fortunately those of us who experienced the ravages of polio here in the
   United States were able with proper medical treatment to overcome those
   circumstances & lead a productive life.*

*Thank you for your support this past 18+ years. You have made our world a
much better & safer place for children. WE WILL ERADICATE POLIO..... *
