Latest on John Porter's condition below.  I talked to him today at UCDavis
Med. Car. Was alert but coughs constantly while talking.  Janis is trying
to get him transferred to MCDH.

Jerry:Â  I am sorry that I haven't been able to contact you. I just got
back from Sacramentoa little while ago.  They were finally able to do
some tests on John.  He was too weakand he developed pneumonia, so they
had to sedate him for 5 days.  They discoveredthat food had backed up so
much that even water could not get through. the openingis too small  As
far as IÂ know they did nothing to treat this, but he is now able to have
pureed food and liquids.  He still has trouble breathing and there is a
lot of congestion in his chest.
Supposedly they will transfer him to a rehab facility closer to home
soon.  I just spoke withhis nurse and she said they will keep him until
his breathing improves. It was supposed tobe tomorrow, but she said she
thinks it will be longer.  I can speak with him on the phonenow.  He is
pretty coherent, but a little strange.
The doctor is very nice, but he gives very little information.  The
nurses, except for one, arebetter.  The physical therapist is the best of
the lot.  I hope to know more tomorrow whenthe case manager is available.
This has been a terrible experience.  I hate not knowing what is going
on.  I also hateSacramento.
