Hi Everyone,
Matt sent an email about the cleaning up the park and getting a few more
picnic tables. Maybe you to felt gratitude- I know I did. Excellent work.
Thank you Matt! Our park is a gem.
Matt is bringing potential new members to our club. Regarding our meetings
and new members; I would like to hear at each meeting what the committee's
are doing. Briefly, of course. I am trying to listen from a newcomers
perspective, and we have been talking fundraisers a lot recently, which I
get it-- it's needed. It will make newcomers weary and cause them to run
the other way. What I propose is that we work into each of our meetings
our (and Rotary International's) six area's or focus:
- Promoting Peace
- Fighting Disease
- Providing clean water, sanitation, and hygiene
- Saving Mothers and Children
- Supporting Education
- Growing local economies
Whether it's local or international projects, and through our committee's-
this is the heart of our club efforts. Can everyone from now forward
preface what we share with our club, in the press, and in our community
discussions with how it serves these areas of focus? This is how people get
engaged with Rotary.
John Cottle stood up last week to give an update about the upcoming Pedal
for Polio. Thanks for your leadership and efforts! When we have guests or
potential members, we want to be clear with a helpful intro to what the
event or project is for. In this case- one of our six areas of focus.*
Area of Focus: Fighting Disease*
We had a highly informative program from Marie Jones about the Mill Site
and rezoning last week. How might that tie in with what we do? I had a few
minutes to talk with her. Did you know she was unaware of Rotary Park?
I haven't talked with Jody recently, but it's likely he's sent the number
of 3rd grade students to the district so we can order dictionaries. We also
do need to have leadership from our club attend and give guidance to the
Interact Club. It was been 3 years since a club Rotarian attended. This
would be ideal for a new member who lives or works in Mendocino. It's twice
a month. Easy! *Area of Focus: Education*
I'll look forward to seeing everyone this week, and meeting Matt's guest
Eric Lillybeck, and other guests!
