Dear Rotarians,
I am proud to say Rotary is so far ahead of many organizations, and we
require any Rotarian to report sexual abuse claims from Youth we supervise
or work with. I went through the highest level of training, including a
background check with the federal Department of State. It’s free, and does
not take too much time. If any of you wish to learn more, please ask me
about the youth protection in place with Rotary.
Thank you,
Donna

An Update From Senator Dianne Feinstein

An Update From Senator Dianne Feinstein

January 28, 2018

* PREVENTING ABUSE OF YOUNG ATHLETES*

Senator Feinstein for the past year has worked on legislation to reform how
amateur athletics organizations handle sexual abuse claims.

Currently there is no federal requirement for national amateur sports
organizations or organizations that cross state lines to report allegations
of sexual misconduct to law enforcement.

Senator Feinstein’s bill would change that and ensure there are enforceable
protections in place for young athletes.

****How you can help****

While this bill has passed the Senate, it awaits consideration in the
House. California constituents can call their representatives in the House
at 202-224-3121 and demand a vote on this bill as quickly as possible.

Below is a *script* that callers can use when speaking with House offices:

*“S. 534 is a bipartisan bill designed to prevent the abuse of young
athletes by someone like Larry Nassar, who was just sentenced to 175 years
in jail.*

*“The bill passed the Senate unanimously and is waiting for a vote in the
House. I encourage Representative __________ to support this bill and push
for a vote as soon as possible.*

*“Please ask House leadership to put S. 534 on the suspension calendar and
bring it up for a vote.”*

* RECENT ACTIONS*

*Senate Passes Amateur Athletic Organization Sex Abuse Bill* (November 14,
2017)

“Amateur athletics governing bodies like USA Gymnastics have an obligation
to athletes, parents, and the sport to ensure that athletes are safe. This
bipartisan bill aims to help prevent the sexual abuse of athletes and would
require prompt reporting of abuse to authorities. I have been pushing
Indianapolis-based USA Gymnastics for answers and accountability from the
beginning and Senate passage of our legislation is an important step
forward.” *To read the full press release, **CLICK HERE*

*Feinstein Introduces Bill To Safeguard Young Athletes from Abuse *(March
6, 2017)

“I have long worked to prevent sexual assault and ensure that survivors
have access to the resources and support they need. By requiring amateur
athletic governing organizations to promptly report every allegation of
sexual abuse to the proper authorities, this legislation will help
survivors receive justice and protect more people from becoming victims.” *To

*Feinstein Calls for Reforms to Amateur Athletic Organizations* (February
17, 2017)

“I met with some of the victims and it was one of the most powerful,
emotional meetings I’ve had during my 24 years in the Senate. The abuse
these women suffered will stay with them the rest of their lives. I’m
working on a bill to require USA Gymnastics and adults who work with
juvenile athletes to immediately report allegations of sexual abuse to
local and federal law enforcement.” *To read the full press releases, **CLICK

*Senators Pressure USA Gymnastics To Address Abuse Claims* (August 5, 2016)

“We urge you immediately to take specific actions to ensure that
allegations of sexual abuse are promptly reported to appropriate
authorities and law enforcement, so that children are protected. Research
indicates that most people who experience sexual abuse in childhood do not
disclose their abuse until adulthood, if at all, and when disclosure does
occur in childhood, significant delays are common.” *To read the full
