[Rotary] Fwd: Rotary - Devastation to Inspiration - How you can help

I'm sorry that I will not be there for the discussion, but I would like to offer some thoughts for consideration. First, I think we should think big. Recovery from the worst disaster in Northern California is going to require a lot of money. We need ways to leverage our contributions with the contributions from other clubs and districts. Perhaps we should consider setting a fire relief contribution goal for our club. The amount could be a percentage of our fund raising activities for the year, or a percentage of the amount in our activities account, or the total proceeds from a new fire relief fund raising event, or perhaps a combination of all these options. We might also discuss how we want our contribution spent. Do we want our money to go to Potter Valley or Redwood Valley, or Lake County recovery, or to areas in Santa Rosa and other Sonoma County communities, lots of needs. Finally, if we support the District fund we should know who the decision committee members are, the communities they represent, and the criteria used in their selection. These are just some ideas for discussion, I would like to be part of the committee going forward.
Regards,
Harold

We will be discussing your ideas on how and what we will do as a club this coming Thursday at the board meeting- noon Mendocino Hotel, please RSVP. We will need to form a sub-committee, and I am suggesting of the Community Service committee. Can I ask that you please respond with at least a simple yes that you have received this email? If I don't year from you- your name is Brandt, and you are in Italy. But for the rest of the remaining Mendocino Rotarians, it would be good to hear your concerns about the survivors of the devastating wildfires, and how you will put some effort into helping.

I was able to spend time getting to know them on the three days here, and they were grateful for the warm and genuine hosts in both Fort Bragg and Mendocino. I am pleased at the way we stepped up. Thank you.
