Good Day!
I had a name error which I have corrected in the email from Oct 3. Sorry,
my editor was out to lunch :) Also, there are some updates, and to save
your time, please scroll down to the bold face type. Gary attended the
Foundation Training this weekend, which I am giving him kudos for~ Thank
you Gary!! He will have the floor at this weeks meeting to talk about what
he learned. This week we will have the Interact students joining us, and
Jody will be finding from Serena out how many hosting Rotarians are needed.
It is our custom to sponsor our guests for lunch.
Warmly,
Donna

Hi Everyone,
Did you notice how the howling wind has died down and how superb the
weather forecast is for this Thursday's offsite meeting at Pt Cabrillo?! It
will be beautiful!

Here is the brief info:

Wildlife Biologist Robert Douglas will provide our program.

Title: "My Life Working As A Biologist for A Timber Company--A Natural
Historian's Odyssey."

*The talk and the weather were bright and fresh. It was a small bunch of
Rotarians that showed up. We were delighted to see Sean's daughter Gracie
attend. Dean's awesome dog Shadow also made an appearance, and was super
excited when Robert made spotted owl calls. And our former Rotarian Bruce
Lewis made an appearance.*

I have Harvest Market and myself preparing a delicious picnic lunch. I
invited the Mendocino Beacon people also, and they did RSVP. Invite new
people, bring a guest!! Wear a hat and sunscreen.

Here are a few recent highlights I want to share with you, and I hope
you'll discuss amongst yourselves as you lunch during the sunshine on
Thursday.

CLUB VISIBILITY
Our International committee Chair Jeff submitted such an impressive report
to the District newsletter, that they have decided to make it the featured
article for the next newsletter, which comes about bi-monthly.
Newsletter Editor Tom Hoag Phoned me last night to get facts and photos
straight, and tell me the great news! I have encouraged Jeff to submit to
the Rotarian magazine also.
*Our 2 new Rotary signs for Highway One have arrived, Matt volunteered to
put them up when he gets a spare moment. Thanks Matt!*

FELLOWSHIP
I had the pleasure of lunching with John Porter yesterday. He has mailed
out personalized reports of our historical good work to his loyal donors.
He has been getting a response back from people saying things like, " I had
no idea how much our community and the world benefits from our Mendocino
Rotary Club!" If you have not yet given John a most sincere thank you in
person, please do it the next time you see him. It makes a difference!

GIVING THANKS
Everyone who donated to our recent golf tournament needs to receive, at the
very least, a hand written or personalized thank you. That goes for
Rotarians who also sponsored a hole and donated. I have a request: Who will
take on assisting John and I with this task? His hand can only hold the
pen so much.
I wrote thank you's for all the donations I solicited, and then more
donations came from them- that is how it works!

THE ROTARY FOUNDATION
Gary will be attending The Rotary Foundation training on Saturday. Would
you like to join him? It helps to have more than one silo of excellence.
Anything you learn at this free training is your knowledge to keep. You'll
enjoy the commaraderie with Gary.

YOUTH SERVICE
Youth service could use extra hands. Sometimes Jody cannot make the
Interact Club meetings, which are the first and Third Wednesday's at 12:20
in Serena Ackers classroom at the Mendocino HS. The Interact club will
join us next week, so here is your chance to meet them and feel really good
about our youth. And by the way, there is much more to youth service beyond
Interact. Learn more at the next youth service meeting.

CLUB SERVICE
We are lost without a club service chairperson. Honestly, should your club
president be scrambling to fill this need? Pete will not return from Dallas
until January. I cannot continue to do all I need to do without the support
of club service. Its a great opportunity for a Rotarian who has not taken
on a leadership role already this year. Free training!

YOUTH EXCHANGE
I am in the midst of getting cleared by the Department of State for the
Youth Exchange program. I did this last fall, laying the groundwork for
firing up our youth exchange program again this year. We have at least two
Mendocino High students who applied to go out on an exchange. I need two
additional YE officers. And of course, we need host families in this
district. This is for a 2018-2019 exchange, but we need to have everything
in place prior. This program changes lives and infuses our schools, our
club and the community with international goodwill and diplomacy. Talk to
me if interested. Our 2017 MHS Grad Gabriel Geiger went to Denmark in
2016. He is now attending University in Amsterdam, studying linguistics and
history. A fine example of a successs Rotary sponsored Exchange.

PROGRAMS
Brandt has taken the helm of programs from this point on, and is scheduling
into January. Our programs have all been high quality, let's keep momentum
building. We are making small changes to our website to feature upcoming
speakers. Click on this:

Then click on Events at the top of the page. The calendar will load. Then
click on the Agenda tab at the upper right side of the calendar for an
easier to read view. Then click on the actual words on the date- say Pt
Cabrillo meeting. All the details about our event/ day will be displayed.

FIRST EVENING MEETING
Thursday October 19th. Please, let's discuss any ideas about food and
beverage, format, start and finish times, the invite list, or any detail
you care to share. At this point it starts at 5:30 and ends at 6:45. This
is all new territory, so let's stake a claim, and make it great!

*FRIENDSHIP EXCHANGE Plus Senator McGuire*
*Takes place Oct 19-21. Hosting Rotarian households Ray Alarcon
and Debra DeGraw, John and Betty Cottle, and Jerry and Cathy Karabensh

our guests during their stay- it will be fun! Also consider attending Ft
