Dear Gary,
I am resending this email with the flyer attached for easier forwarding.
FYI every member listed in the District Database has received this email.
Sorry for the confusion.
“Hello Fellow Rotarians! Well, it certainly has been a tumultuous ride
since the “Summer of Fire” hit Lake County in 2015. As most of you know
the four Rotary Clubs in Lake County (Lakeport, Middletown, Clearlake and
Kelseyville) jumped into action right after the Valley Fire broke out on
September 12, 2015 and through their Foundation (LARCA) established a fire
relief fund with an initial goal of $50,000. Well, when you’re a Rotarian,
the world trusts you and that goal was surpassed within the first week. To
date, we are just shy of $1Million raised for the residents of Lake County
($950K approximately)! It was a good thing too because just when we
thought we were well into the re-building process, the Clayton Fire tore
through downtown Lower Lake in August of 2016 destroying hundreds of homes
and businesses. Our LARCA Fire Relief Fund sprang into action within 24
hours and we continue to assist in the rebuilding of all those that have
suffered greatly from these disasters. In the past 17 months we have
helped countless families, organizations and businesses with the rebuilding
of their lives, and we’ve been able to do it with no overhead expenses.
THANK YOU to all of you that have placed your trust in us and I can assure
you the committee takes that responsibility very seriously and continues to
do the good work that is still very much in need in our community.
Now to the purpose of this email. One of our earlier projects we
identified was the destructive loss of so many of our beautiful trees. We
paid for the propagation of 100,000 to be disseminated to property owners.
The seedlings have been growing in a large greenhouse facility for the
past year and are now ready to plant. Another goal we had from early on
was to have a project that the community as well as Rotarians and other
volunteers from near and far could participate in. Well, it’s time. We
have set aside 3,000 of those trees and will be hosting a Rotary
Re-Forestation project at the Middletown Trailside Park on Saturday, March
25th. We hope that you will be able to come and I want to encourage you to
share this information with anyone that would like to come help this
community heal just a bit more. Lunch will be provided so I will need an
approximate headcount of how many you will be.
If you have any questions, please let me know and, on behalf of all of the
Lake County Rotarians, thank you for everything that you have done to help
us. I, for one, never really knew the power that Rotary has until going
through this experience – certainly makes me proud to be apart of it. See
you on March 25th!”
