U.S. Club And District Insurance Program

Dear Rotary Leader,

Each July in your club invoice, U.S. Rotarians pay for insurance through
the U.S. Club and District Insurance Program. As part of a review of this
Insurance Program, over 6,600 U.S. club presidents and district insurance
representatives were invited to participate in a survey in November -
December 2016. Rotary's Operations Review Committee met at the end of
March to discuss the results and we wanted to update you on the findings.

First, we send a sincere *thank you* to the 2,007 U.S. club officers and
district insurance representatives who participated -- a 29.8% response
rate! From the survey responses, we learned that most are satisfied with
the Insurance Program:

   - The vast majority agree that the U.S. Club and District Insurance
Program saves clubs time, effort and money. In the comments, a U.S.
Rotarian said, "Excellent program and great to know it's in place and meets
   our club's needs."

We heard about an opportunity for improvement -- awareness and knowledge of
the Insurance Program. A respondent commented in the survey, "Most club
members have a vague idea about the coverage but lack knowledge about the
specifics."

   - A slight majority said that they had heard of the Insurance Program
prior to receiving the survey invitation, but *only* 26% felt
   sufficiently informed about it.

The survey results revealed insights, including recommendations from
participants, to raise awareness:

   - Almost all (95%) said that districts play an important role in
informing clubs about the program. When asked for recommendations, a U.S.
Rotarian wrote, "It's not so much what Rotary needs to do, but rather what
   districts could do."
   - Many recommended more emphasis on the Insurance Program in
president-elect training. According to respondents, only 41% of districts
*currently* cover the Insurance Program during PETS / Multi-District
   PETS.
   - Program information needs to be given to additional club roles:
Respondents reported that treasurers and secretaries are even more likely
than club presidents to handle insurance coverage and insurance questions.

Using the feedback gathered through the survey, Rotary is currently
developing a communications plan to better inform clubs about the program.
Where possible, Rotary is also taking immediate steps to improve. Examples
include:

   - This Update email is being sent to 2016-17 and 2017-18 club treasurers
and club secretaries as well as club presidents and presidents-elect.
   - Rotary's Risk Management team has prepared a new U.S. Club and
   District Liability Insurance Program PowerPoint

with an explanation of the coverage, exclusions and restrictions, example
claims scenario and list of program resources. You may download this
   PowerPoint here

or on the Insurance Portal (Portal link and password at the end of this
   email).

Again, *thank you* to the 2,007 U.S. Rotarians who participated in the
survey. We greatly appreciate your feedback. Rotarian input has been
essential to our review of the U.S. Club and District Insurance Program
*and* the plans to increase awareness.

Kindest regards,

Rotary's Operations Review Committee
