I visited Jerry in the critical care unit at Mendocino Coast  Hospital. He 
doesn't want any visitors (seriously). He says being in the  hospital, like 
he has, for the past few days is really borning and he  doesn't want to 
share it with anyone -- not even his wife,

Jerry  has a "stenosis", a narrowing of the vertebrae around his spiral 
cord  causing weakness. He is waiting for a bed at UCSF (opening any day).  
Once a bed is available, he will be helicoptered out to UCSF fior a  surgery to 
release the pressure and fix his vertebrae.

The  surgery is "routine" in the sense that is is common and doctors doing  
the opoeration have a lot of experience. Jerry is optimistic that he  could 
be back home and up and around in a week or  so.
