Ladies and Gentlemen,
The Artist Wheatley Allen donated a piece of Art worth $25,000 to $30,000 or more and his ONLY request was that we must raise a minimum of $10,000 and that this money would be used exclusively for Rotary Park. He hoped it would raise much more. We launched this campaign in November with the assumption that the raffle would be concluded by February, well before we got into our other fundraisers. The Wheatley Allen donation was a stand alone fundraiser. Tom Honer paid for the casting of the eagle which cost over $2000. John Porter has indeed sold $4,000. In February we asked the members again to either buy or sell these tickets. Eighteen members have purchased 1 or two tickets themselves, our remaining members have not. When you do the math we are indeed short of the $10,000 minimum bid. Tom Honer and myself were intimately involved with the arrangements of the Wheatley Allen donation and we were at the Art Center when the campaign was launched. I can assure you that no commitment was made to hold this drawing at the Casino Night. I'm sure the assumption was that the money would be raised by Casino night but the criteria was always 200 tickets, whenever that happened.
Whether it is the Art Auction, Casino Night, or the Special Raffle, many of our members go above and beyond to support our fundraising efforts and do it over and over, (like John Porter) and others, for their own reasons do not. There are many ways to contribute to an organization and I would like to acknowledge all of those contributions. This is very frustrating and believe me I honor the service of those of you who do so very much. But I also honor the gift of a very generous man and in no way do I want to devalue his gift to us.
Yours in Rotary
LaDonna McDonald

I would never have supported a raffle that said we had to sell a certain number of tickets or it would not take place. That is absurd rule for a raffle. John Porter has sold over $4000 worth of tickets. What have the rest of you sold? He has told people who bought his tickets that the raffle would be drawn at Casino Night on April 12th. It would be a violation of John's statements to the many people he sold tickets to if we do not have the raffle drawing on April 12th. If the rest of you think we need to sell 200 tickets, get off your duffs and sell them or buy them yourselves. We should have the drawing for the raffle on April 12th regardless of how many tickets we have sold. Have each of you bought or sold the two tickets you were given? If not, it is your fault we have not sold 200 tickets. Roughly 35 Rotarians should have bought or sold at least 70 tickets and this is not the case. Let's be Rotarian Gentlemen and Women and not nit pick. We can try to sell the rest of the tickets on Casino Night before the drawing. If we don't that is result of poor participation by some members of the club. I do not believe the tickets say anything about the drawing will only be held if we sell 200 tickets. Do I feel strongly about this? YES I DO!!!

Tickets were sold and I do not think any information indicated that if we did not sell 200 tickets we would not raffle off the eagle. Are you suggesting that we return the money, $7350 already collected, to those who bought tickets? I certainly would not agree to this.

It is really important to turn in your checks and tickets at this meeting for both the entrance tickets as well as the tickets for the Wheatly Allen Eagle. We are hoping to draw the winner of the Eagle on Saturday but we must have all 200 tickets sold to do so.

This is not a meeting you want to miss as our Card game pot is over $750.00. Our menu is a mexican theme with Chili Verde, Spanish Rice, and the usual yummy sides.
