COMMENT:

My name is Madison Paul, and I’m writing to share an exciting upcoming event that I think your guild members would love! Carneros Studios is hosting a Gee’s Bend–Inspired Quilting, Crafting & Culture Retreat in Napa Valley from August 9–15, 2025, and we would be so grateful if you could pass along the information to your members.
This special retreat brings together the artistic legacy of Alabama’s Black Belt region—home to generations of Black quilters, crafters, and storytellers—with the natural beauty of Northern California wine country.
We are honored to welcome Betty Anderson, founder of the Camden Shoe Shop and Quilt Museum in Gee’s Bend, Alabama, and Sulynn Creswell, Executive Director of the Black Belt Treasures Cultural Arts Center. Together, they will guide a variety of creative workshops rooted in the traditions of Wilcox County, including:
Lye soap making
Lavender oil distillation
Candle and room spray crafting
Heritage doll making (the “Women of Gee’s Bend” series)
A two-day wall quilt workshop inspired by Gee’s Bend traditions
Participants can register for individual classes or stay the entire week, and optional lodging is available at Carneros Studios. Breakfast is included for overnight guests, and space is limited.

If anyone has questions or would like to sign up, they can contact us directly at  mailto:madisonp at carneros-studios.com  or visit our website at  http://www.carneros-studios.com/ . to join our community.
We hope to celebrate creativity, culture, and community with quilters from all across California, and we’d truly appreciate your help in spreading the word.
Warmly,
Madison Paul
