One of our newest members, Pamela McCurdy,
has sent me a note asking for some help from our group.
Those of you who were at the last meeting may remember
Linda Walzer mentioning Pamela (who lives in Redding) joining the hand sewers’ Zoom call recently. And
many of you will remember two of Pamela’s small quilts from this year’s show –
the one of the Carr Fire and the one of Noyo Harbor – that were in the hallway.
I have had the privilege of knowing Pamela since she first entered a quilt back
in 2017 of her grandparents’ home in Little River.
Pamela shared with me that her cousin, June Lemos, who
lives in Mendocino, is very sick. She was diagnosed with Rheumatoid
Arthritis in January, and had to leave her job as City Clerk of the City of
Fort Bragg. She entered into “extreme care” for what they thought was a severe
case of R.A., but in June that diagnosis was revised to Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer.
June has begun treatments in and out of the hospital in Fort Bragg, in Willits,
and in San Francisco.
Her daughters are looking for a palliative caregiver and
having a very difficult time. If anyone has a referral or knows of
someone, they could really use help. You can contact Emily and Athena
Lemos, her daughters, through the gofundme webpage they have set up to
cover home care costs, https://gofund.me/aa1ace56
Or write or call Pamela at mailto:pammcquiltz at hughes.net - (925)980-3917 - and she can get a contact possibility to them.
June is the reason Pamela first showed her quilts at our
show. The quilt of their grandparents’ home hung in June’s City Clerk's Office
in Fort Bragg for years with its ribbon and pin from the show. June was not
able to attend the show this year and Pamela was not able to see June because
she was so ill. Pamela shared with me that June has told her she's a fighter
and she is not giving up.
Please let Pamela know if you know of any possible leads
for caregivers.
Thank you.
