Enter your traditional quilts in this call where we can see how contemporary artists are paying tribute to the time-tested styles and techniques of quiltmaking’s past. All techniques are welcome, pieced, applique, whole cloth quilts and others.

A $1,000 Best of Show Award and three $500 prizes each in Traditional, Modern, and Art categories will be awarded. THE CHANGING CLIMATE
The changing weather is affecting the world – and often in a negative way. Use your creativity so show others how it is affecting you, your home, your everyday life with either immediate or long tern events and ecological impact. Quilters have often used their work to encourage growth and express activism.

THE SPORTING LIFE
Sports have long been ingrained into world culture from ancient times up until today, where fans are passionate about their teams and their players. This exhibit spotlights and showcases sports and the love of it from the most familiar types (football, basketball, baseball, soccer) to the more specialized (badminton or curling, anyone? How about Quidditch!). Quilts here can feature action scenes, individual players, or sporting themes. And you won’t have to break a sweat enjoying them!

TRIBUTE TO QUEEN ELIZABETH II
The passing of the longest reigning British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II (serving from 1952 to 2022), has left a lifetime of memories and respect. Honor the monarch's memory with a traditional or art quilt that memorializes her long-standing dedication to Great Britain and its people.

YELLOWSTONE: A WESTERN LIFESTYLE
The popularity of the television series Yellowstone has brought renewed attention to the region, culture, and customs of the western United States and the outdoors. Use your artistic skills to create a piece that describes what Yellowstone means for you. It may be a Traditional, Modern, or Art quilt.

FOR THE HOUSTON QUILT FESTIVAL
CELEBRATE LIFE
Vintage bowties weave as quilting lines “ghost” their shapes, evoking bittersweet memories of a young father’s early death. Loose tie ends also suggest a life unfinished. Yet the family remains stitched together. And we smile at the 1950s fabric and labels—an amusing peek back at sartorial history. HANDS ALL AROUND
Artists from all around the world incorporate influences from their own cultures into the design and technique of their quilts. This prestigious, long-running international showcase will include recent quilts by international artists who create works inspired by such. QUILT PHOTO: Lāng-Sai, Lion Dance (58” x 48 ») by Ling Wan Wu from a previous exhibit.

IN FULL BLOOM
Just as quilters create beautiful pieces of art with fabric, florists and gardeners cultivate works of beauty from the soil. The International Quilt Festival will showcase floral quilts from across the spectrum in color and splendor in the special exhibit. This exhibit will premiere at the International Quilt Market and Festival/Houston. We would also like to retain quilts for a possible exhibit at International Quilt Festivals in 2023. QUILT PHOTO: Hummingbird Garden (41.5” x 30.75”) by Linda Waddle from a previous exhibit.

IN THE AMERICAN TRADITION
Contemporary quiltmakers often look to the art form’s rich tradition and history for inspiration in their own works. This exhibit features recently-made quilts that incorporate traditional blocks, styles, and/or techniques. QUILT PHOTO: Proverbs 4:23 (72” x 72”) by Sandie Massett; design inspiration is antique quilt pictured in Mariner`s Compass an American Quilt Classic by Judy Mathieson from a previous exhibit.

LANDSCAPE QUILTS
>From valleys and volcanoes to mountains to monuments, landscapes often inspire artists, including many in the quilt world. This expansive exhibit will showcase stunning geographical wonders. QUILT PHOTO: Blooming Tundra (32” x 35”) by Maria Janotkova from a previous exhibit.

TACTILE ARCHITECTURE™
Buildings have a long history of inspiring the creative designs of quiltmakers. In the 19th century, American quilters developed classic architectural patterns such as Log Cabin, Schoolhouse, and Brick Wall. This annual juried exhibit challenges quiltmakers to create works based on architectural themes and inspirations. The quilt may be Traditional, Modern, or Art.. QUILT PHOTO: Shelter Me (55” x 55’) by Leila Sigler. Inspired by photos from SAS Airline Magazine from a previous exhibit.
