[Oceanwavequilters] Fall Retreat

Hi All!

Here's more information about the retreat on Friday, October 23rd (We'll
have a little Opening Ceremony) and Saturday, October 24th from 9:00 a.m.
to noon, then 1:00 to 4:00 via Zoom. Just a reminder that you do not have
to register (but you get a bonus if you do! More about that later) to
attend all or any of the retreat. You don't even have to be sewing - just
stop by to say, "Hi!" and see what we're all doing.

So far we've explained the "make your own bingo card" instructions and
game from Fons and Porter. That will be played on Saturday afternoon. Have
you made your board(s) yet? I made 3!

The next unveiling is... A Strip Race! This idea was brought to us by
Ginny C. We've twerked the idea just a little bit and we hope you enjoy
it. First of all, keep your clothes on! Second, you can stay in your seat!
The idea is to see who can sew 44"-45" strips together the fastest. Racers
will be sewing together 20 strips, but only 2 at a time.
That means they will sew 10 seams. They will end up with 10 pairs of
strips sewn together. (Did I explain that right? Got it yet?)
The rules: no pinning or using clips, the only prep allowed is to have 10
pairs right sides together. The pairs may be chain stitched. After
testing, I found that could be done in less than 13 minutes on a
Featherweight! Use a jelly roll, or cut your own. (Thank you, Nancy for
the beautiful free patterns!)
Racing coach tip: Make sure your bobbin is full before the race begins.
Wondering what to do with those strips? See the patterns attached and get
to planning.
This race will be held on Friday afternoon at about 3:30, so even if you
don't want to race, you can show up and cheer on your friends!!!

I bet some of you have projects ready to go, I know I do! If you're still
wondering what you'll be working on, consider contacting Sharon L. (as she
invited us all in the newsletter) to pick up a charity quilt kit. That's
one of the things I'll be putting together. After attending many retreats,
some of us have learned that it's way more fun if you have all of your
pieces cut and ready to sew together. That's the best!

One of the other activities (if you choose to join in) is a scavenger
hunt. These will be things found in your sewing spaces and maybe around
the house. This will be a sort of bingo game/earning points game. You'll
get coaching and instructions during the retreat.

As stated before, we'd like this to be an interactive experience while
getting some sewing done, and have some fun while we're at it, but, if you
don't want to do anything but sew, that would be great just to see you
there! Did we mention there will be prizes? (Don't ALL games have to have
prizes?!)

Only 3 more weeks to go. We'll send out a couple more emails before then,
so keep your eyes open!
