As you know, if you read the newsletter, we are hoping to obtain City Council approval for a "drive-by" quilt show on Saturday, June 27th from 10-4. The idea would be to have each quilter select 1 quilt to hang on the fence surrounding the VFW Building on Harrison and Laurel Streets. There will be no judging, no signs - just a bright display of quilts as our gift to the community.

Judy checked with City Hall yesterday, and our permit is pending whether crowds seem to descend on Fort Bragg this coming weekend, and whether COVID-19 numbers increase. So,we hope to know in the next week or so whether this is a "go".

In anticipation of approval, we are asking you to submit to me, via e-mail by Wednesday, June 10th:

(1) whether you will be participating and

(2) what width and length your quilt will be.

This will let us do some pre-planning - and it will let us know if we can open it up to 2 quilts per quilter.

Each quilter will hang her own quilt. You will be given a specific time to hang between 9 and 10 a.m. on that Saturday to encourage social distancing.

Note that the fence is only 5 feet high, so shorter quilts would be better. Your quilt will need to have a sleeve. You will also need a dowel or stick that is a couple of inches or so longer than your quilt is wide. (You might consider adding a bottom sleeve and a bottom dowel in case it's windy.) You will need to bring some twine, string, or wire to attach your dowel to the fence. You may bring paper towels and spray cleaner to wipe off the fence (we will have wiped it down ourselves first thing that morning). We ask that you spray the paper towel away from the quilts and use it to wipe the fence. You might also want to bring a sheet to hang behind your quilt. Just realize that you will be sharing the space with others.

Quilters will also be given a time to take their quilt down between 4 and 5 p.m.

If the show is approved, we will e-mail you an official entry form to be completed.

WE ARE ALSO ASKING FOR VOLUNTEERS for the show. These volunteers will be responsible for keeping an eye on the quilts, encouraging social distancing, answering questions from the folks who come to see the show, selling raffle tickets, or being crossing guards if the library and playground are reopened by that time. The volunteers will work 2 hour shifts (10-12, 12-2, and 2-4). Five volunteers are needed for each shift. Please contact Sharon Rowan (mailto:sawrowan at gmail.com) or 964-4511 to sign up for a volunteer shift.

Thank you!

Sharon Lau
