2021 Challenge

Ladies

I came across a challenge in 2020 — a UFO challenge. Of course, I would never have any UFO’s in my quilt room! So, I thought a good New Year’s resolution would be to tackle at least some of them. I would love for you to join me.

The Challenge is to do four items for a drawing during the July 2021 general guild meeting. The criteria for the Challenge are:

Complete a UFO. It can be any project that is in support of the Guild’s objectives...quilts, Dress a Girl, pillowcases, caps, etc
Try a new technique. Learn a new way of doing something and use this technique in a project. This could be an improv quilt, paper piecing, appliqué, or even a new design such as an African styled quilt. If you have never made pillowcases, now is the time.
Use some “I do NOT like this fabric any more”. I have seen what I consider awful fabric turned into a wonderful quilt. An idea would be, cut the fabric into 5” strips. Still don’t like it, cut into 5” squares. Still no, 2 1/2” strips. I’ve taken the 5” strips and made 2 1/2” strips and then 2 1/2” squares. The smaller it gets, the better it looks. The things you can create using 2 1/2” strips/squares or 5” squares are endless.

So finish 4 UFOs or use your stash to create new quilts/dresses/pillowcases using new techniques or awful fabric. Your effort will be “published” in our monthly virtual show and tell starting in February. Please include a comment that it is part of the 2021 Challenge and whether it was a UFO, used a new technique or “Used awful fabric”. The effort must include one or more of the above criteria to be eligible for the drawing.

If you complete 4 projects that meet this criteria by the June general meeting, your name will be put in the hat for a drawing at the July general meeting. The prize is TBD (sorry) but I’ll come up with something.

Happy Challenge!
