[Oceanwavequilters] Problems on the listserv due to aol procedure change - now resolved

Hi everyone

I’ve been trying to word it correctly, but there’s no simple way to explain the problem on all listservs today.

aol decided to put out a very strict security block today because a lot of their addresses were hacked. The timing of this coincided with Lonna (who has an aol address) sending an email to the OWQ listserv. what it did was block everyone with an aol or yahoo address from getting mail on the listserv.

Therefore I am resending her post and you can read it below in red.

I’ve been on the phone with MCN for a while, and they have resolved the issue. I have reversed the block on the aol and yahoo addresses in our listserv.

BUT I urge anyone with a yahoo or aol address to get a new address with either gmail or mcn. Yahoo and aol address are more vulnerable to hacking than any others and this sort of blocking will now occur in all sorts of ways, so with yahoo or aol addresses you have a pain in the neck future full of blocks, hacks and your address being compromised.

MCN is free if you have services with them and you can call them up and they’ll walk you through setting up your new address on any device or computer and advise on how you can forward mail from your old address until everyone knows the new.

Gmail is free and very secure. Here is how:

To create an account:
Go to www.gmail.com.
Click Create account.
The signup form will appear. ...
Review Google's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, click the check box, then click Next step.
Here, you'll have an opportunity to set up recovery options. ...
Your account will be created, and the Google welcome page will appear.
Any questions please don’t hesitate to email or call me.
