Mariee Juárez died in the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia of viral pneumonitis shortly after being released from a Texas detention center. A pediatrician who reviewed her medical records revealed that Mariee was refused adequate medical care while in detention.
Her mother, Yazmin, is suing the detention center's operator, CoreCivic--the massive for-profit prison company plagued with years of allegations of severe abuse.
