Corporate Greed Resisters!

We would like to welcome those of you who signed the petition or pledge to the Flush the TPP email list.

Some people are confused about the status of the TransPacific Partnership, so we will briefly clarify that and explain what actions we need to take to stop the TPP.

The TPP was signed by the 12 member nations on February 4, 2016. This means that the countries need to ratify it within two years of that signing. For the United States, this means that Congress must pass implementing legislation created by the Obama administration.

President Obama controls when he sends that legislation to Congress. He will likely wait until he thinks he can get enough votes to pass it. Once he sends it, under fast track, Congress has 90 days to vote on it.

The good news is that right now, it looks like Congress does not have the votes and the closer we get to the elections, the less likely they are to want to vote on it. The time that we have to watch out for is what is called the 'lame duck' session, the time between the November elections and the December break when the public is not paying much attention and those members of Congress who were voted out are likely to support unpopular bills.

We must keep the momentum against the TPP up throughout the year. The Obama administration really wants to pass the TPP.  And, we saw during the fight to stop fast track, that the Obama administration can be very persistent in twisting arms in Congress to get votes. We need to keep up the pressure!

Our job is to make sure that the TPP implementing legislation is never sent to Congress.

How do we do that?

1. Keep the pressure on your member of Congress
, especially if they voted for Fast Track. Click here to find out how your House Representative (http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2015/roll374.xml) or Senator (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=114&session=1&vote=00218) voted (note that the bill is not called fast track because Congress attached the fast track bill to another bill). You can contact them through the Congressional switchboard at 202 224 3121 (http://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=114&session=1&vote=00218)  or plan a local action. The next time they will be at home is the week of March 7.

You can also pass a resolution making your town, city, county or state a "TPP-Free Zone." Click here for more information on how to do that.

You can also gather some friends to hand out leaflets. Presidential candidate rallies are a great place to reach hundreds of people waiting in line to get in. Candidates who oppose the TPP are Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton, Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio and Jill Stein. Some people are confused about the status of the TransPacific Partnership=
=2C so we will briefly clarify that and explain what actions we need to ta=
ke to stop the TPP.<br>

P was signed by the 12 member nations on February 4=2C 2016. This means th=
at the countries need to ratify it within two years of that signing. For t=
he United States=2C this means that Congress must pass implementing legisl=
ation created by the Obama administration. <br>
<br>
President Obama controls when he sends that legislation to Congress. He wi=
ll likely wait until he thinks he can get enough votes to pass it. Once he=
 sends it=2C under fast track=2C Congress has 90 days to vote on it.<br>
<br>
The good news is that right now=2C it looks like Congress does not have th=
e votes and the closer we get to the elections=2C the less likely they are=
 to want to vote on it. The time that we have to watch out for is what is=
 called the 'lame duck' session=2C the time between the November elections=
 and the December break when the public is not paying much attention and t=
hose members of Congress who were voted out are likely to support unpopula=
r bills.<br>
<br>
We must keep the momentum against the TPP up throughout the year. The Obam=
a administration really wants to pass the TPP.  And=2C we saw during=
 the fight to stop fast track=2C that the Obama administration can be very=
 persistent in twisting arms in Congress to get votes. We need to keep up=
 the pressure! <br>
<br>
<strong>Our job is to make sure that the TPP implementing legislation is n=
ever sent to Congress.</strong><br>
<br>
